What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: phosphatidylserine 100 mg per capsule. Phosphatidylserine is a naturally occurring compound found in cell membranes; this version is derived from soy.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients (microcrystalline cellulose, modified cellulose, silicon dioxide, and magnesium stearate) that help form and preserve the supplement.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for phosphatidylserine is mixed. It's rated possibly effective for age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer disease, meaning some research suggests benefit but the evidence isn't yet solid.
For athletic performance, ADHD, general cognitive function, and dementia, the evidence we have isn't reliable enough to rate it one way or the other — it doesn't mean it doesn't work, just that more research is needed.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Phosphatidylserine is generally well tolerated in studies, though long-term safety data is limited. The most common side effects are mild: flatulence, stomach upset, headache, insomnia, and nausea.
Insomnia is more likely at higher doses (around 600 mg), and stomach upset may occur at doses of 200–300 mg per day. There isn't enough safety data to use this supplement during pregnancy, so that's best avoided.
Safety while breastfeeding is also unknown — talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you if you're nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting if you take anticholinergic drugs (such as medications for overactive bladder, muscle spasms, or Parkinson disease) or cholinergic drugs (like those for myasthenia gravis or glaucoma) — both are rated Moderate concerns.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Phosphatidylserine may be worth considering if you're dealing with age-related memory loss or early Alzheimer disease and want to explore a supplement option. Anyone taking anticholinergic or cholinergic medications should check with their doctor or pharmacist before starting — the interactions could affect how well those drugs work.

Formula
Doctor’s Best Phosphatidylserine (PS) contains SerinAid, which provides a vital nutrient, PS, for the brain’s nerve cell connections (synapses). PS helps facilitate the activity of neurotransmitters involved in learning, memory, and mood. PS supports overall cognitive function, focus and mental clarity. PS and other phosphlipids are structural components of brain neurons that can help enhance cell-to-cell communication.
Numerous double-blind clinical trials document the benefits of PS for memory, learning, and other cognitive functions. PS also helps the body cope with stress.
