BET contains one active ingredient: betaine anhydrous. Betaine is a compound your body uses to help manage homocysteine (an amino acid that builds up in your blood), support liver function, and play a role in cell metabolism.
It's naturally present in some foods, but this product delivers a concentrated dose in powder form.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Betaine anhydrous is effective for homocystinuria, a rare inherited condition where homocysteine accumulates to harmful levels. It's possibly effective for high homocysteine (hyperhomocysteinemia) in general.
For nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NASH), colorectal polyps (adenoma), depression, and acid reflux (GERD), the evidence isn't strong enough yet to rate whether it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Betaine anhydrous is generally well tolerated when taken in studied doses. The most common side effects are body odor, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, and elevated cholesterol levels.
A rare serious effect is cerebral edema (fluid and swelling in the brain), though this is uncommon. Safety data is incomplete, so it's best to use it only under a doctor's guidance.
If you're breastfeeding, safety hasn't been established well enough—talk with your healthcare provider before using this product.
