Insufficient evidence
Betaine anhydrous is effective for homocystinuria, a rare genetic condition where homocysteine builds up to dangerous levels. It's possibly effective for hyperhomocysteinemia (mild to moderate elevation of homocysteine in the blood).
For nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NASH), colorectal cancer prevention, depression, and heartburn reflux (GERD), the evidence isn't strong enough yet to know whether it works — we simply don't have enough reliable data. Talk to your doctor about whether it's right for your specific situation.
