BiomeMD for Women contains 17 ingredients, with 10 active probiotic strains: Bacillus coagulans (LactoSpore), Lactobacillus acidophilus (two versions), Bifidobacterium longum, Bifidobacterium bifidum, Lactobacillus gasseri, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, and several others we could not check. These are live beneficial bacteria meant to support digestive and vaginal health.
The remaining ingredients are inactive — xylo-oligosaccharides, FOS, galacto-oligosaccharides, vegetable oil powder, silica, and capsule material — which act as fillers, binders, and food for the probiotics.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence is mixed across the strains. Lactobacillus acidophilus (in two forms here) is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome, H. pylori, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
Bacillus coagulans is possibly effective for constipation and IBS. Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for IBS and respiratory tract infections.
For most other conditions—hay fever, anxiety, asthma, cognitive decline—the evidence isn't established in the data we hold, or the rating is possibly ineffective. No effectiveness data are on file for several of the strains in this formula.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The checked strains are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. That said, the data are limited, so your doctor should weigh in before you use this, especially if you have a weakened immune system, are critically or severely ill, have indwelling catheters, or are in the hospital.
Live probiotic organisms can theoretically cause serious infections like bacteremia or sepsis in these high-risk groups; cases are rare but have been reported. Orally, some people taking L. acidophilus with other probiotics have experienced uncommon gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, gas, abdominal pain, or diarrhea.
One trial reported a rash and itching in a few participants, though it's unclear whether the probiotics caused it. We hold no pregnancy or lactation safety data for most of the strains here; for the two L. acidophilus versions, pregnancy is rated possibly safe, but lactation data are not on file.

Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
