What’s inside

Full disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Full

Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

CarnoSyn Beta-Alanine contains one active ingredient: beta-alanine at 800 mg per capsule. It's an amino acid your body uses to make carnosine, a compound involved in muscle function and endurance.

The capsule itself is made from vegetable material.

Does it work?

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: athletic performance and muscle endurance.
  • We looked for evidence on: Athletic performance, Physical performance, Exercise-induced muscle breakdown, muscular endurance, high-intensity exercise capacity, muscle fatigue.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Beta-alanine is rated "Possibly Effective" for Athletic performance (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Beta-alanine is rated "Possibly Effective" for Physical performance.
  • Also on file: Beta-alanine is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Exercise-induced muscle breakdown.

Beta-alanine is possibly effective for athletic performance and physical performance — the data suggests it may help with high-intensity exercise and power output. For other uses on the label — age-related cognitive decline, COPD symptoms, general cognitive function, and menopausal symptoms — the evidence isn't established enough to rate it one way or the other.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Beta-alanine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults. The most common side effect is a harmless tingling or pins-and-needles feeling (paresthesia), usually on the scalp or face, that starts within 20 minutes of taking it and lasts about an hour.

You may also notice skin flushing. How intense this tingling is depends on your dose — lower doses cause milder tingling, and some people don't notice it at all.

There isn't enough safety information to recommend beta-alanine during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before you take it.

No known interactions

No medication interactions are currently documented for the matched ingredients — that isn't a guarantee none exist.

Why this rating?
  • None of the 1 matched ingredient has a documented medication interaction on file.

No interactions are documented for beta-alanine in our data. Even so, if you're on any medications, check them with the search tool below or ask your doctor or pharmacist before you start — absence of documented interactions isn't a guarantee none could occur.

CarnoSyn Beta Alanine 800 mg by NutraBio: Common Questions

Does CarnoSyn Beta Alanine 800 mg by NutraBio interact with any medications?
We do not currently list a known interaction for the mapped ingredients in CarnoSyn Beta Alanine 800 mg. This does not guarantee none exist, so confirm with your pharmacist.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
CarnoSyn Beta Alanine 800 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will this make me tingle or flush?
Very likely. Beta-alanine commonly causes a harmless pins-and-needles feeling and skin flushing, usually starting on your scalp within 20 minutes and lasting about an hour. It depends on the dose — lower doses cause milder tingling, and at the lowest doses, only about 25% of people notice it at all.
How does beta-alanine work?
Your body uses beta-alanine to make carnosine, a compound that helps your muscles function during intense exercise. This is why it's mainly studied for athletic and physical performance.
Is it safe to take for a long time?
Beta-alanine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, but there isn't much research on long-term use at high doses, so we can't say for certain. If you're thinking about taking it regularly, check with your doctor or pharmacist.
Can I take this if I'm trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding?
There isn't enough safety information, so it's best to avoid it during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you.
Does it actually improve athletic performance?
The evidence suggests it's possibly effective for athletic and physical performance, meaning there's some research backing it — but it's not a sure thing, and results vary from person to person.
