Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
SR Carnosyn contains one active ingredient: beta-alanine (branded as CarnoSyn). Beta-alanine is an amino acid your body uses naturally.
The product also contains inactive ingredients — fillers and binders like microcrystalline cellulose, dicalcium phosphate, and magnesium stearate — that help hold the tablet together.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Beta-alanine is possibly effective for athletic performance and physical performance, meaning some evidence supports its use for those goals, but the picture isn't yet complete. For age-related cognitive decline, cognitive function, COPD, and menopausal symptoms, there isn't enough reliable evidence to rate how well it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Beta-alanine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, but it commonly causes a harmless tingling sensation (paresthesia) — usually a pins-and-needles feeling that starts on your scalp within 20 minutes and spreads across your body, lasting about an hour. This tingling is dose-dependent: it's severe at very high doses, mild at lower ones, and didn't occur in about three-quarters of people taking the smallest doses in studies.
The safety data isn't sufficient for pregnancy or breastfeeding, so it's best to avoid it during those times. Long-term safety at high doses hasn't been studied.
Meds to double-check
No known interactions
No interactions are documented in our data for beta-alanine. That said, run your exact medications through the search tool on this page, or check with your own pharmacist or doctor to be confident.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.
SR Carnosyn may help with athletic and physical performance if the evidence base interests you. The main thing to expect is harmless skin tingling.
If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or take any medications, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist first.
