Chaste Tree Berry Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Chaste Tree Berry against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: chaste tree berry extract, also called vitex agnus-castus. It's traditionally used to help balance hormones, particularly for cycle-related symptoms.
The liquid also contains alcohol as an inactive ingredient.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence supports chaste tree for premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and breast pain (mastalgia) — both are rated possibly effective. For premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), anxiety, and aging skin, there isn't enough reliable evidence in our data to rate whether it works.
It's been rated possibly ineffective for fractures.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Chaste tree is generally well tolerated in short-term use, but because it affects hormones, you should use it under guidance. The most common side effects reported in trials were diarrhea, fatigue, headache, insomnia, irregular menstruation, nausea, stomach pain, and vomiting; skin conditions including rash, itching, and acne have also been reported, as well as irregular or prolonged menstrual bleeding.
The safety data advises against using chaste tree during pregnancy or while breastfeeding due to its possible effects on hormones and limited safety information in those settings.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before starting, double-check with your pharmacist if you take antipsychotic drugs or the anti-nausea medication metoclopramide (Reglan), birth control pills, hormone replacement therapy, or dopamine agonist medications. The extract's hormone activity can interfere with how these drugs work.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Chaste tree may help with PMS or breast pain if you're not on hormonal medications, dopamine-related drugs, or birth control. If you take any prescription medication — especially antipsychotics, Reglan, birth control, or hormone replacement — talk to your pharmacist before adding this supplement.
Because it affects hormones and menstrual cycles, it's not for pregnancy or breastfeeding.
