DOPAMINE AGONISTS
Why this applies to Carbidopa, Levodopa, Entacapone
Carbidopa, Levodopa, Entacapone falls under DOPAMINE AGONISTS — the group Vitex Agnus-castus interacts with.
Vitex agnus-castus might potentiate the actions of dopaminergic agonists due to possible dopaminergic effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Stalevo combines levodopa (which your brain converts into dopamine), carbidopa, and entacapone to help control Parkinson's symptoms. Here's the thing about chasteberry (vitex): lab and animal studies hint that it may have mild dopamine-like activity. On paper, that could add to your medication's dopamine effect rather than block it. If that happened, you might notice more of the things that come from too much dopamine, such as nausea, dizziness, lightheadedness when standing, restlessness, or extra involuntary movements (dyskinesia).
I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical concern based only on lab and animal research, not on real patients. It's worth mentioning to your neurologist or pharmacist before adding vitex, but please don't change your Parkinson's medication on your own.
