Chill Pill 2.0 contains 7 active ingredients. Taurine is an amino acid; L-theanine is a compound from tea leaves believed to promote calm focus; GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) is a brain chemical involved in relaxation; magnolia bark extract comes from a traditional botanical; lemon balm extract is from an herb in the mint family; and skullcap root extract is from a plant traditionally used for relaxation.
The capsule itself is made from vegetable cellulose and microcrystalline cellulose (a common binder).

Not established
The evidence for these ingredients is mixed. Taurine is possibly effective for hepatitis and congestive heart failure (CHF), though research is still developing.
Lemon balm is possibly effective for cold sores and may help with stress and mood, though the data on depression is limited. L-theanine is possibly effective for cognitive function, but evidence for anxiety, age-related mental decline, and Alzheimer disease is insufficient to rate.
For GABA, magnolia bark, and skullcap, we don't have enough reliable data to confirm they work for their intended uses — the evidence simply isn't established in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Most ingredients are generally well tolerated for short-term use, but long-term safety is not well studied for any of them. Taurine rarely causes hypersensitivity reactions, and people with sulfa or sulfite allergies should be cautious.
Common side effects include drowsiness, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, and headaches. Magnolia bark is unsafe in pregnancy.
L-theanine, GABA, lemon balm extract, and skullcap should be avoided in pregnancy due to insufficient safety data. For breastfeeding, lemon balm should be used cautiously and discussed with your doctor; GABA, magnolia bark, and skullcap are best avoided due to lack of safety information.

L-Theanine
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theanine might lower blood pressure, potentiating the effects of antihypertensive drugs.
Animal research shows that theanine can lower blood pressure in spontaneously hypertensive animals. Theoretically, concomitant use of theanine and antihypertensive drugs might potentiate the antihypertensive activity.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, theanine might have additive sedative effects when used in conjunction with CNS depressants. However, it is unclear if this concern is clinically relevant.
Theoretically, theanine may compete with glutamate and/or increase plasma gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels, which could cause CNS depression. In one clinical study, some subjects taking oral theanine reported drowsiness.
Serotonergic Drugs
Clinical studies regarding the effects of L-theanine on serotonin levels are conflicting. Some studies suggest it can increase serotonin levels in the brain while others report that it may decrease them. Nevertheless, there have been no reports of l-theanine being a causative agent in serotonergic-related side effects or serotonin syndrome.
Gamma Aminobutyric Acid
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, taking GABA with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Some clinical research shows that GABA can decrease blood pressure in patients with hypertension.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, GABA might have additive sedative effects when used in conjunction with CNS depressants. However, it is unclear if this concern is clinically relevant.
Endogenous GABA has well-established relaxant effects and GABA(A) receptors have an established physiological role in sleep. However, the effects of GABA supplements are unclear, as it is unknown whether exogenous GABA crosses the blood-brain barrier. Although there have been limited reports of drowsiness or tiredness with GABA supplements, these effects have not been widely reported in clinical studies. Additionally, intravenous GABA 0.1-1 mg/kg has been shown to induce anxiety in a dose-dependent manner.
Magnolia Bark Extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, magnolia might have additive effects and increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro research shows that the chemicals magnolol and honokiol, isolated from magnolia bark, inhibit platelet aggregation that is experimentally induced by collagen and arachidonic acid. However, they do not inhibit platelet aggregation that is induced by adenosine diphosphate, platelet-activating factor, or thrombin. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, concomitant use of large doses of magnolia bark and CNS depressants might have additive effects.
In vitro and animal research shows that constituents extracted from magnolia bark, especially honokiol and magnolol, have sedative effects. These effects may be due to the inhibition of catecholamine release and modulation of gamma-aminobutyric acid-A (GABA-A) receptors.
Lemon Balm extract
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, concomitant use of lemon balm might have additive effects with CNS depressant drugs.
Lemon balm seems to have CNS depressant activity in animals and in humans.
Thyroid Hormone
Theoretically, lemon balm might interfere with thyroid hormone replacement therapy.
In vitro, constituents of lemon balm extract bind to thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), preventing TSH receptor-binding and leading to the inhibition of TSH-stimulated adenylate cyclase activity. In animals, lemon balm extract has been shown to decrease levels of circulating TSH and inhibit thyroid secretion.
Skullcap root extract
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, skullcap can have additive effects when used with other CNS depressants.
Animal and clinical research suggests that skullcap can cause sedation and cognitive impairment.
Taurine
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, taurine might increase the risk of hypotension when taken with antihypertensive drugs.
Some clinical evidence suggests that taurine can reduce both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
Lithium
Theoretically, taurine might reduce excretion and increase plasma levels of lithium.
Taurine is thought to have diuretic properties, which might reduce the excretion of lithium.
