Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
GNC Preventive Nutrition Cholesterol Support is a single-ingredient supplement. The active ingredient is pantethine, a form of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) that your body can convert to coenzyme A, a molecule involved in fat metabolism and energy production.
The capsule also contains several inactive ingredients: vegetable cellulose, cellulose, stearic acid, magnesium stearate, and silica. These are standard binders, fillers, and capsule materials.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Pantethine carries a "Possibly Effective" rating for hyperlipoproteinemia (a disorder of blood fats). For other forms of high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), the evidence we hold is rated Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate—meaning the existing studies don't yet establish whether it works.
Athletic performance and a rare genetic disorder (PKAN) also lack reliable evidence. If you're considering this product for cholesterol support, talk with your doctor about whether the existing evidence is enough for your situation and how it might fit with other approaches.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Pantethine is generally well tolerated in studies, though long-term safety data are limited. The most common side effects are mild gastrointestinal complaints: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bloating, flatulence, and epigastric discomfort (upper belly pain).
Mild itching has been reported rarely. Not enough reliable safety data exists for pregnancy or breastfeeding.
The safety notes advise against use in pregnancy unless your doctor specifically advises otherwise. For breastfeeding, safety has not been well studied, so caution is advised.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this supplement fits your situation.
Meds to double-check

Before taking this product, double-check any blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs you take—pantethine may theoretically increase bleeding risk with these medications. Altogether, these interactions span 122 individual medications.

The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
GNC Preventive Nutrition Cholesterol Support may be worth considering if you have hyperlipoproteinemia and your doctor thinks pantethine is appropriate. If you take a blood thinner or antiplatelet drug, check your exact medications with the search tool on this page before starting.
If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning either, speak with your doctor or pharmacist first—the safety data are too limited to say it's okay on your own.

Cholesterol Support by GNC Preventive Nutrition Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
GNC Preventive Nutrition Cholesterol Support contains pantethine, which has one documented interaction type to be aware of.
Pantethine may theoretically increase your risk of bleeding if you're taking anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs (blood thinners like warfarin or aspirin)—pantethine appears to reduce how readily your blood clots.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Although this is a Moderate severity concern, the effect is based on theory and what we know about pantethine's action on platelets rather than proven events in patients. That said, if you take any blood thinner or antiplatelet medication, check your exact drugs with the tool on this page before starting.
Although we have not held documented interactions for pantethine beyond anticoagulants and antiplatelets, this does not guarantee none exist.
