What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: chromium, supplied as chromium picolinate at 200 mcg per serving. Chromium is a trace mineral your body uses to help manage blood sugar and support insulin function.
There are no inactive ingredients listed for this powder.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Chromium is likely effective for chromium deficiency — if you're deficient, supplementing will address that. For type 2 diabetes, the evidence is more modest; chromium is rated possibly effective, meaning some research suggests it may help, but the data isn't conclusive.
For prediabetes (impaired glucose tolerance), schizophrenia, and high blood pressure, chromium rates as possibly ineffective, so we don't have solid evidence it helps with those.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Chromium is generally well tolerated at typical supplement doses. The most common side effects are mild — gastrointestinal irritation, headaches, insomnia, irritability, or mood changes.
Serious effects are rare but have been reported with high or long-term use, including kidney and liver damage and blood-related problems. Because of limited safety data on higher doses, stick to what's recommended unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
The product facts don't provide pregnancy or breastfeeding safety ratings, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Double-check your insulin and diabetes medications before starting — chromium may lower blood sugar and raise hypoglycemia risk (Moderate severity). If you take levothyroxine (Synthroid), chromium can reduce how much your body absorbs it, so your doses may need adjustment (Moderate).
Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen and aspirin may increase chromium levels in your body (Minor severity).
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Chromium picolinate can help if you're deficient in chromium, and may modestly support blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes. If you take insulin, diabetes medication, thyroid medication, or regular pain relievers, check your specific drugs with the tool on this page before starting.

Chromium monograph & interactionsChromium Picolinate Powder 200 mcg by BulkSupplements.com Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Chromium Picolinate Powder by BulkSupplements.com does interact with several common medications, and the biggest concern is with diabetes drugs and insulin.
If you take insulin or oral diabetes medication, chromium may lower your blood sugar further, raising the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Some research shows chromium can boost how your body uses insulin, so combining them needs care.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
If you're on levothyroxine (Synthroid) for your thyroid, chromium can bind it in your gut and reduce how much your body absorbs — one study found a 17% drop in blood levels. Taking your thyroid medication a few hours apart from chromium may help.
Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen and naproxen (NSAIDs), as well as aspirin, may increase how much chromium your body absorbs and keep in your system — a Minor-level interaction, but still worth knowing.
Altogether, these interactions span 177 individual medications. If any of these drug types apply to you, use the medication checker on this page to see your exact medications before you start.

Chromium
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chromium may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research shows that taking chromium might lower blood glucose levels, especially in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Insulin
Theoretically, concomitant use of chromium and insulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In clinical research, chromium has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity,
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Chromium might bind levothyroxine in the intestinal tract and decrease levothyroxine absorption.
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that taking chromium picolinate 1000 mcg with levothyroxine 1 mg decreases serum levels of levothyroxine by 17% when compared to taking levothyroxine alone. Advise patients to take levothyroxine at least 30 minutes before or 3-4 hours after taking chromium.
Aspirin
Theoretically, aspirin might increase chromium absorption.
Animal research suggests that aspirin may increase chromium absorption and chromium levels in the blood.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (Nsaids)
NSAIDs might increase chromium levels in the body.
Drugs that are prostaglandin inhibitors, such as NSAIDs, seem to increase chromium absorption and retention.
