HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Detox Support Mint Flavor by TerraVita
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This liquid supplement contains 3 active ingredients: boneset glycerite liquid extract, black walnut glycerite liquid extract, and walnut leaf glycerite liquid extract. These are delivered in a base of glycerin with added mint flavor.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold doesn't establish that boneset works for the common cold — we have insufficient reliable evidence to rate it. Black walnut similarly lacks established evidence for heart disease or wound healing.
Walnut leaf's effectiveness hasn't been rated in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Boneset carries real cautions: it contains alkaloids that may be toxic to the liver, especially at higher doses, and it's been reported to cause nausea, severe diarrhea, and vomiting. The facts advise limiting use to short-term and using it carefully if at all.
Black walnut is generally well tolerated when the fruit alone is used, but the leaf, bark, and hull contain tannins that can cause stomach upset. Also note that black walnut is a tree nut — if you have a tree nut allergy, this product is not for you.
Neither boneset nor black walnut should be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding; safety data are either absent or advise against it.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on drugs that induce CYP3A4 (liver enzymes), such as carbamazepine. Boneset may increase the conversion of its own alkaloids to toxic forms when paired with these inducers — a Moderate severity concern.
Also avoid this product if you have a tree nut allergy, because black walnut is a major food allergen.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product is not established to work for its intended purpose, and boneset carries documented safety concerns about liver toxicity and digestive upset. If you're taking any medications — especially seizure or nerve pain drugs — talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting, because boneset may interact with how your liver processes certain medications.
Pregnant people and those breastfeeding should avoid it entirely.

Detox Support Mint Flavor by TerraVita Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
TerraVita's Detox Support Mint Flavor can interact with medications through its boneset content.
Boneset contains plant alkaloids that may be converted to toxic metabolites if you're taking drugs that induce CYP3A4 (a liver enzyme), which is a Moderate severity interaction. Carbamazepine (Tegretol), used for seizures and nerve pain, is one example.
Altogether, these interactions span 88 individual medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Black walnut in this product has no interactions documented in our data, though we should note that absence of documented interactions is not a guarantee none exist. We could not check walnut leaf glycerite liquid extract — we hold no data for it.
Because boneset carries safety concerns about liver toxicity and the possibility of nausea, severe diarrhea, and vomiting, and because you're taking medications that might be affected, run your exact prescriptions through the medication checker on this page before you start.

Boneset Glycerite Liquid Extract
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Inducers
Boneset belongs to the genus Eupatorium, and many species of this genus contain hepatotoxic pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs). Hepatotoxic PAs are substrates of cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). Theoretically, drugs that induce CYP3A4 might increase the conversion of PAs to toxic metabolites. Some drugs that induce CYP3A4 include carbamazepine (Tegretol), phenobarbital, phenytoin (Dilantin), rifampin, rifabutin (Mycobutin), and others.
