Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INDUCERS
Why this applies to Amoxicillin, Omeprazole Magnesium, Rifabutin
Amoxicillin, Omeprazole Magnesium, Rifabutin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INDUCERS — the group Boneset interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the key thing with this combo: it's not that Talicia changes how boneset works, it's the other way around in a sense. Talicia contains rifabutin, which revs up a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Boneset can contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids, plant compounds that this same enzyme turns into byproducts that are tough on the liver. So in theory, taking them together could mean more of boneset's harmful breakdown products forming, raising the risk of liver irritation.
To be clear, this is a theoretical concern based on how these compounds behave, not proven in people. Still, since boneset already carries its own liver caution, I'd skip it while you're on Talicia. Please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before mixing the two.
