HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Digestive Probiotic 20 Billion by Doctor's Best
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product contains 6 ingredients, including a proprietary probiotic blend made up of three Bifidobacterium lactis strains (HN019, Bl-04, and Bl-07), plus three Lactobacillus strains: acidophilus (La-14), salivarius (Ls-33), and paracasei (Lpc-37). Together they deliver 20 billion colony-forming units of live beneficial bacteria designed to support digestive health.
The remaining ingredients are inactive — microcrystalline cellulose, hypromellose, calcium laurate, and silicon dioxide — which help form and stabilize the capsule.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Lactobacillus acidophilus La-14, one of the strains in this blend, is rated possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis. The evidence isn't strong enough to be definitive, but the data suggests it may help.
For acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), there's insufficient reliable evidence to say whether it works. We don't hold effectiveness ratings for the other four probiotic strains in this product.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactobacillus acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. Some people taking probiotics (especially combined with other probiotic strains) experience mild gastrointestinal side effects like stomach discomfort, abdominal pain, gas, bloating, or diarrhea — but these are uncommon.
In rare cases, live probiotic bacteria can cause serious infections (bacteremia, sepsis, or other invasive infections), mostly in people whose immune systems are already compromised or who have other underlying conditions; most cases involve bacteria that translocate (move) from elsewhere in the body. Since data are limited, talk with your doctor before starting this product, especially if you have a weakened immune system or serious illness.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Antibiotic drugs are the main medication type to watch: taking them at the same time as this probiotic may make the probiotic less effective. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to help you space out the doses if you're on an antibiotic.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This probiotic may help with IBS, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and a few other digestive or infection-related conditions, though the evidence is suggestive rather than definitive. The main caution is timing it away from antibiotics — they can wipe out the live bacteria in the product.
If you take any medications or have a weakened immune system, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.

Promotes healthy intestinal function
Vegan
Non-GMO Gluten free
Bifodobacteria and Lactobacilli are important components of the intestinal microflora. The intestinal tract naturally contains a beneficial ecosystem of good bacteria that contributes to the body's healthy immune response. Lifestyle changes such as occasional stress, diet or environment commonly result in the loss of beneficial bacteria which may cause digestive imbalance in the intestinal flora. A balanced intestinal microflora is vital in keeping the body in healthy working order.

Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
