What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product is pure DMAE Bitartrate powder—one active ingredient, dimethylethanolamine (deanol), with no inactive fillers or other ingredients added. Deanol is a compound that researchers believe may increase acetylcholine, a chemical messenger in your brain involved in memory and attention.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for deanol is limited. It's rated likely ineffective for Alzheimer disease and tardive dyskinesia (an involuntary movement disorder).
For aging skin, ADHD, and athletic performance, we don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether it works or not.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Deanol is generally well tolerated by some adults when taken orally, but side effects do occur and safety data overall is sparse. The most common reported side effects are abdominal cramps, abdominal pain, diarrhea, drowsiness, nausea, and vomiting.
At higher doses—over 1000 mg daily—it has been linked to mood changes including depression and elevated mood. Doses of 1500 mg daily have been reported to worsen schizophrenic symptoms in people with that condition.
For pregnancy, there isn't enough safety data, so the facts advise against use. For breastfeeding, safety is unknown and the data advises against it as well.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
Check with your pharmacist before starting if you take cholinergic drugs (medications that boost acetylcholine) or anticholinergic drugs (medications that block acetylcholine)—deanol may interfere with how they work. Both interactions are rated Minor, but they matter if you're on those classes of medication.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
Deanol is a research ingredient with unproven benefits for most claimed uses and limited safety information. If you're considering it for cognitive support or skin health, talk with your pharmacist first—especially if you take psychiatric medications or drugs that affect your nerve function.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
DMAE Bitartrate by BulkSupplements.com contains one active ingredient, dimethylethanolamine (also called deanol), which interacts with two broad categories of medications.
The most serious concerns are with cholinergic drugs (medications that increase acetylcholine), where deanol may amplify both the intended effects and unwanted side effects—though the severity is rated Minor. Deanol is thought to boost your body's acetylcholine levels, so combining it with drugs that do the same thing could potentiate that effect.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The other category is anticholinergic drugs (medications that block acetylcholine), where deanol might theoretically reduce how well they work—again, Minor severity. Since deanol raises acetylcholine, it could counteract the action of drugs designed to lower it.
Altogether, these interactions span 218 individual medications. Before you start this supplement, use the interaction checker on this page to look up your exact prescriptions, especially if you take anything for nerve function, Parkinson disease, or bladder control.
