Extra Care Probiotic Complex Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Extra Care Probiotic Complex against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product contains 3 active ingredients: two individual probiotic strains (Bifidobacterium bifidum SD-5857 and Lactobacillus acidophilus La-14) plus a proprietary blend that includes Bifidobacterium animalis lactis BL-04. These are live, beneficial bacteria meant to support your gut health.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients — cellulose, maltodextrin, magnesium stearate, and silica — which are fillers and binders to hold the product together.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for these probiotics is mixed. Bifidobacterium bifidum and Lactobacillus acidophilus are both rated possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Lactobacillus acidophilus also shows possibly effective evidence for H. pylori, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis. For other conditions — like hay fever, anxiety, and respiratory infections — the evidence either isn't strong enough to rate or is listed as possibly ineffective (atopic disease).
If you're considering this for a specific condition, chat with your pharmacist about whether the science backs your particular use.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
These probiotics are generally well tolerated in healthy people. That said, if you have a weakened immune system, you should be cautious and check with your doctor first.
Bloating and flatulence can happen with probiotics, though these haven't been reported specifically from Bifidobacterium bifidum alone. In one trial, a combination of Lactobacillus acidophilus with other probiotics caused uncommon gastrointestinal side effects like stomach discomfort, pain, bloating, and diarrhea.
Very rare cases of serious infection (sepsis) linked to these bacteria have been reported, but they're uncommon and mostly in critically ill patients. Since evidence is limited, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antibiotic drugs, make sure to separate them from this probiotic by at least a few hours — antibiotics can kill the live bacteria in the product and make it less effective. No other medication interactions are documented for the ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This probiotic may help if you have IBS or certain other gut-related conditions, but the science isn't settled for everything it might claim. If you take antibiotics, space them apart from this product.
People with weakened immune systems should check with their doctor first. Because these are live organisms, it's worth a quick conversation with your pharmacist, especially if you have other health concerns.
