Inositol is generally well tolerated, with the most common side effects being mild digestive issues — diarrhea, gas, and nausea. When combined with omega-3 fatty acids in research, some children reported cold and allergy symptoms.

Inositol is possibly safe in pregnancy but should be used only under medical supervision, and there isn't enough data to know it's safe outside that setting. Choline is well tolerated at normal food amounts but can cause side effects at high doses (above 3.5 grams daily), including a fishy body odor, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting; it is likely safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding when used as advised by your healthcare provider.
