Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: sea buckthorn juice powder. Sea buckthorn is a berry rich in nutrients traditionally used for skin and cardiovascular health.
The capsules also contain inactive ingredients—gelatin, rice flour, maltodextrin, and magnesium stearate—which are fillers and binders.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for sea buckthorn is mixed. Research suggests it may be possibly effective for burns.
For eczema (atopic dermatitis), the data points to it being possibly ineffective. For other uses—like high cholesterol (dyslipidemia), aging skin, and cancer—there isn't enough reliable evidence yet to rate how well it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Sea buckthorn is generally well tolerated when eaten as food, but supplement safety hasn't been fully studied, so use caution. High doses may cause yellow staining of the skin; one case reported yellow skin after 100 grams daily for 6 months.
Topical application has caused dryness, irritation, redness, and rash (rash in about 4% of patients in one study). There isn't enough reliable safety data on supplement use while breastfeeding, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Double-check before taking if you use blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (warfarin, clopidogrel, aspirin, etc.)—sea buckthorn may increase bleeding risk. Also check if you take blood pressure medication—sea buckthorn may lower blood pressure further.
Both interactions are Moderate severity.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Sea buckthorn may help with burns, but evidence for other uses is limited or unclear. If you take blood thinners or blood pressure medications, you'll need to check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting—the interaction risk is real.
Even though it's a food, we don't have enough safety data on supplements yet, so discuss dose and use with your healthcare provider.

Full Spectrum Sea Buckthorn by Swanson Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Swanson's Full Spectrum Sea Buckthorn contains sea buckthorn juice powder, which has documented interactions with two major drug types.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin, clopidogrel, or aspirin)—sea buckthorn may increase bleeding risk because research shows it can slow how platelets clump together.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Sea buckthorn may also lower blood pressure, so taking it with antihypertensive drugs (like lisinopril, metoprolol, or amlodipine) could theoretically increase the risk of low blood pressure (hypotension). Both interactions are rated Moderate in severity.
Altogether, these interactions span 289 individual medications. Before you start this supplement, check your exact medications with the search tool on this page, and talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist—especially if you take any blood thinner or blood pressure medication.
