The evidence for banaba in GlucoFit is not established in the data we hold. Banaba appears to be well tolerated in short-term studies, though long-term safety data is limited. Some people taking a combination product containing banaba reported dizziness, headache, tremor, weakness, sweating, stomach upset, heart palpitations, and shakiness — but it's unclear whether banaba, the other herb in that product, or both together caused these effects.
During pregnancy, the safety data advises against use. For nursing, there isn't enough reliable information, so avoid use as well.

In vitro research shows that banaba inhibits OATP, particularly OATP2B1. OATPs are expressed in the small intestine and liver and are responsible for the absorption of drugs and other compounds.
