Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Gluta-Lyn 1500 Powder contains one active ingredient: glutamine (in the form GlutaLean®), an amino acid your body makes naturally and uses for immune function, gut health, and muscle recovery. Each serving delivers 1,500 mg of glutamine in powder form.
There are no other inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Glutamine is effective for sickle cell disease. For HIV/AIDS-related wasting, postoperative recovery, and critical illness from trauma, it's rated possibly effective—meaning the evidence suggests it may help, but it's not definitive.
The data we hold doesn't cover other conditions this product might be marketed for.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Glutamine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults. The most common side effects from oral use are belching, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, headache, gastrointestinal pain, cough, and musculoskeletal pain.
A small number of trial participants taking high doses (10–30 grams daily) reported these GI effects. Dizziness and headache have also been reported, and two people with bipolar disorder developed mania or hypomania, though these are rare.
If you have kidney or liver disease, use this only under medical supervision. There isn't enough safety data to recommend it during breastfeeding unless your doctor advises it.
Glutamine is rated likely safe in pregnancy, but talk it over with your own doctor or pharmacist before starting it while pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you use anticonvulsant medications (seizure drugs). Glutamine might theoretically interfere with how these drugs work, though it hasn't been observed in actual patients yet.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you have sickle cell disease, glutamine is worth considering. If you're recovering from surgery or dealing with critical illness or HIV-related wasting, the evidence suggests it may help—but it's not proven.
If you take anticonvulsant medication, check with your doctor or pharmacist first. Watch for stomach upset, especially at higher doses.
