What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains a single active ingredient: grapefruit pectin powder. Pectin is a soluble fiber naturally found in citrus fruits and other plants.
There are no other inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Grapefruit pectin is rated possibly effective for high cholesterol (hypercholesterolemia). For prediabetes (impaired glucose tolerance) and radiation exposure, the evidence we hold is insufficient to say whether it works.
If you're considering it for high cholesterol, talk with your doctor about what the science supports and how it might fit into your overall plan.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Pectin from food and typical supplement amounts is generally well tolerated for most people. The most common side effects are mild—diarrhea, gas, loose stools, and mild cramps.
Rare but serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, have been reported in sensitive individuals, particularly those with a history of oral allergy syndrome. For pregnancy, the data suggests it is likely to possibly safe, but concentrated supplements have not been well studied in pregnancy, so check with your doctor before taking it.
Similarly, dietary amounts are likely fine while breastfeeding, but supplement safety has not been well studied—talk with your pharmacist or doctor if you're nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check the following medication types with your doctor or pharmacist: digoxin (a heart medication) at Moderate severity, lovastatin (a cholesterol drug) at Moderate severity, and tetracycline antibiotics (infection fighters) at Moderate severity. Pectin may reduce how much of these drugs your body absorbs.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Grapefruit Pectin Powder by TerraVita Premium Collection does interact with several medications through its pectin content.
The most serious concern is with digoxin (a heart medication brand-named Lanoxin), where pectin may reduce how much of the drug your body absorbs—by as much as 62% in a small study—potentially lowering its effectiveness. This falls into the Moderate severity category.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Pectin may also reduce the absorption of lovastatin (a cholesterol-lowering drug) and tetracycline antibiotics (used to treat infections), both at Moderate severity. In each case, the pectin might bind to the medication in your gut and prevent your body from taking it in fully, making the drug less effective.
Altogether, these interactions span 23 individual medications.
If you take any of these drugs—or any other prescription medications—run them through the interaction checker below before you start this powder. Your doctor or pharmacist can tell you whether the timing of doses or an alternative approach makes sense for you.

For each ingredient in Grapefruit Pectin Powder with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Grapefruit Pectin, Powder
Digoxin (Lanoxin)
Theoretically, pectin might reduce the absorption of digoxin, potentially decreasing its effectiveness.
A small clinical study shows that taking digoxin with a kaolin-pectin suspension reduces the absorption of digoxin by about 62%. It is unclear if these effects are due to pectin, kaolin, or the combination.
Lovastatin (Mevacor)
Theoretically, pectin might reduce the absorption of lovastatin, potentially decreasing its effectiveness.
Case reports suggest that concomitant use of pectin and lovastatin might reduce the cholesterol-lowering effect of lovastatin, possibly due to reduced intestinal absorption of lovastatin.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, pectin might reduce the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics, potentially decreasing their effectiveness.
A small clinical study shows that taking tetracycline with bismuth subsalicylate in a kaolin-pectin suspension reduces the absorption of tetracycline by about 34%. It is unclear if these effects are due to pectin, kaolin, bismuth subsalicylate, or the combination.
