Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This supplement contains one active ingredient: chromium, delivered in the form of chromium picolinate at 1000 micrograms per capsule. The inactive ingredients are rice powder, gelatin, and vegetable magnesium stearate—standard capsule fillers and binders.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Chromium is likely effective for treating chromium deficiency itself. For diabetes, the evidence shows it's possibly effective—some research suggests it may help lower blood glucose, especially in people whose type 2 diabetes isn't well controlled.
For prediabetes (impaired glucose tolerance), schizophrenia, and high blood pressure, the evidence we hold rates it as possibly ineffective.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Chromium is generally well tolerated at typical supplement doses. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal upset, headaches, insomnia, and mood changes.
Rare serious effects—kidney or liver damage, muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis), and low platelet counts—have been reported, usually at higher or prolonged doses. Skin rashes and itching can occur, especially in people with a contact allergy to chromium.
During pregnancy, the safety data rates small amounts as likely or possibly safe, but extra supplement doses beyond what's in a prenatal vitamin should be avoided unless your doctor recommends it. For breastfeeding, it's rated likely safe, though the data on higher doses is limited.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you're on insulin, diabetes medications (like metformin or sulfonylureas), or levothyroxine—these need close coordination. If you take NSAIDs or aspirin regularly, mention that too, so they can keep an eye on your chromium levels.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you have type 2 diabetes that's hard to control or a diagnosed chromium deficiency, this supplement may be worth a conversation with your doctor—but only if you're not already on insulin or other blood-sugar medications. If you take levothyroxine, you'll want to coordinate timing with your pharmacist.
Talk it over with your own doctor or pharmacist before starting, especially if you're on any regular medications.

High Potency Chromium Picolinate 1000 mcg by tnvitamins Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
High Potency Chromium Picolinate 1000 mcg by tnvitamins does interact with several medication types.
The most serious concern is with insulin and antidiabetic drugs—chromium may lower blood sugar on its own, so combining it with these medications could push your glucose too low (low blood sugar, or hypoglycemia). There's also a moderate interaction with levothyroxine (the thyroid hormone replacement Synthroid and others): chromium can bind to it in your digestive tract and reduce how much your body absorbs, which means your thyroid dose might not work as well.
Taking them several hours apart may help, but your doctor or pharmacist needs to know you're on both.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen and naproxen, as well as aspirin, may increase how much chromium your body absorbs and retains—a minor interaction, but worth knowing if you take these regularly. Altogether, these interactions span 178 individual medications.
Before you start this supplement, check with your own doctor or pharmacist if you take insulin, diabetes medications, levothyroxine, or NSAIDs regularly. They may want to monitor you or adjust your timing.

Chromium
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chromium may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research shows that taking chromium might lower blood glucose levels, especially in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Insulin
Theoretically, concomitant use of chromium and insulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In clinical research, chromium has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity,
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Chromium might bind levothyroxine in the intestinal tract and decrease levothyroxine absorption.
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that taking chromium picolinate 1000 mcg with levothyroxine 1 mg decreases serum levels of levothyroxine by 17% when compared to taking levothyroxine alone. Advise patients to take levothyroxine at least 30 minutes before or 3-4 hours after taking chromium.
Aspirin
Theoretically, aspirin might increase chromium absorption.
Animal research suggests that aspirin may increase chromium absorption and chromium levels in the blood.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (Nsaids)
NSAIDs might increase chromium levels in the body.
Drugs that are prostaglandin inhibitors, such as NSAIDs, seem to increase chromium absorption and retention.
