What’s inside

Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 4 active ingredients.
  • “Probiotic Consortium” is listed as a grouped ingredient — the label doesn't break down how much of each component you get.

HMF Super Powder contains 4 active ingredients: three live probiotic strains (Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis strain CUL-34, and Bifidobacterium bifidum strain CUL-20), plus fructooligosaccharides (FOS), a plant-based fiber that acts as a food source for beneficial bacteria in your gut. These probiotics are meant to support intestinal and digestive health.

The product has no inactive ingredients listed.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: digestive health and gut microbiome balance.
  • We looked for evidence on: Antibiotic-associated diarrhea, Constipation, Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Lactose intolerance, Clostridioides difficile infection, Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) — and 4 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Possibly Effective" for Antibiotic-associated diarrhea (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Possibly Effective" for Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
  • Also on file: Bifidobacterium Animalis Subsp. Lactis is rated "Possibly Effective" for Constipation, Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

The probiotics in this powder—Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis, and Bifidobacterium bifidum—are rated possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and possibly effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea and respiratory tract infections. L. acidophilus is also possibly effective for bacterial vaginosis and H. pylori infection.

The FOS ingredient doesn't have strong evidence behind it for the conditions studied; the data shows insufficient evidence to rate it for osteoporosis, diabetes, travelers' diarrhea, or cholesterol. If you're considering this product for a specific health concern, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist about whether the evidence supports its use for your situation.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 4 of the 4 matched ingredients.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 4 of 4.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 4 of 4.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

The probiotics in this powder are generally well tolerated by healthy adults and children. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal: bloating, gas (flatulence), abdominal pain, and diarrhea, though these are uncommon.

FOS can cause similar digestive discomfort—especially at higher doses—but studies at typical supplement doses (2.5 to 15 grams daily) didn't show a significant increase in these symptoms compared to placebo. If you have a weakened immune system, check with your doctor before starting, since probiotics carry a rare theoretical risk of infection in that setting.

For pregnancy and breastfeeding, safety data on FOS isn't on file, and L. acidophilus is rated possibly safe in pregnancy—but for B. bifidum and B. animalis subsp. lactis, data aren't available. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant or nursing.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 3 of the 4 matched ingredients can interact with medications — Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Bifidobacterium Animalis Subsp. Lactis, Bifidobacterium Bifidum.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • For scale: 182 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Take this product at least a few hours apart from antibiotic drugs (Moderate interaction). Antibiotics can kill the live probiotic organisms in the powder, making it less effective.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

HMF Super Powder is a probiotic blend most relevant for IBS, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and respiratory health, though the evidence varies. The biggest thing to watch is timing with antibiotics—they can kill off the live cultures, so space them apart by a few hours.

Digestive side effects like gas and bloating are possible, especially early on. Check with your own doctor or pharmacist before you start, particularly if you're on antibiotics, have a weakened immune system, or are pregnant or nursing.

Antibiotic Drugs

Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.

HMF Super Powder by Genestra Brands : Common Questions

Does HMF Super Powder by Genestra Brands interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, HMF Super Powder has a known interaction with 182 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
HMF Super Powder contains 2 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take this with my antibiotics?
Not at the same time. The antibiotic will kill the live probiotics in the powder. Space them out—typically a few hours apart—and talk with your doctor or pharmacist about the best schedule for your specific drugs.
Will this powder give me bloating or gas?
It might, especially when you first start. Both the probiotics and the FOS can cause bloating, gas, or abdominal pain, but these are usually mild and uncommon at normal doses. The symptoms often settle down as your gut adjusts.
Is this safe if I'm pregnant?
L. acidophilus is rated possibly safe in pregnancy, but we don't have safety data on file for the other two probiotic strains or the FOS. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this is the right choice for you during pregnancy.
What does FOS do in this product?
FOS is a plant fiber that feeds the good bacteria in your gut, helping them survive and thrive. It's meant to work alongside the live probiotics to support digestive health.
Is this powder effective for IBS?
The three probiotic strains in it are rated possibly effective for IBS based on the evidence we hold. That means there's some support for it, but it's not proven for everyone. Talk with your doctor about whether to try it for your specific situation.
Does this product have any fillers or other inactive ingredients?
No inactive ingredients are listed for this powder—it contains only the four active components: the probiotics and FOS.
