Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: Hoodia Fleshy Leaf Extract, 500 mg per capsule. Hoodia is a plant extract traditionally used as an appetite suppressant.
The capsule itself is made from bovine gelatin, an inactive ingredient that holds the extract.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence we hold rates hoodia for obesity as insufficient reliable evidence to rate. That means studies haven't yet established whether it actually works for weight loss.
If you're considering this for appetite control, talk with your doctor about what the current research supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Hoodia has limited safety data, and a few concerns stand out. It's been reported to cause headache, dizziness, nausea, tingling skin sensations, and giddiness in some people.
There's also concern that it may raise blood pressure and heart rate. Because there isn't enough safety information, the data advises against use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or nursing to discuss your individual situation.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this if you're on blood pressure medications (antihypertensives), beta-blockers, diabetes drugs, or insulin. Hoodia may reduce how well blood pressure and heart medications work, and it may enhance blood sugar-lowering drugs in ways that need monitoring.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Hoodia Extract may be worth considering if you're looking for an appetite-suppressing supplement, but the evidence for weight loss isn't yet well established. If you take blood pressure medications, heart drugs, or diabetes or insulin therapy, you'll want to check with your own doctor or pharmacist before starting — hoodia can interfere with how these work.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding aren't safe without personalized medical advice.

Hoodia Extract 500 mg by BulkSupplements.com Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Hoodia Extract 500 mg by BulkSupplements.com interacts with medications through its hoodia leaf extract, most notably with blood pressure drugs.
Hoodia can raise blood pressure and heart rate, which may weaken the effect of blood pressure medications (antihypertensives) like captopril, enalapril, losartan, and valsartan — putting you at risk for elevated blood pressure despite taking them.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
It also interacts with beta-blockers (heart and blood pressure drugs like atenolol and metoprolol). Hoodia may stimulate the same receptors these drugs block, potentially reducing their effectiveness.
Additionally, hoodia may enhance the blood sugar-lowering action of diabetes medications and insulin, raising the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), so blood glucose monitoring becomes important if you combine them.
Altogether, these interactions span 262 individual medications. Before you start this product, check your exact prescriptions with the tool on this page, especially if you take anything for blood pressure, heart rate, or blood sugar control.

Hoodia Fleshy Leaf Extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
Animal research shows that a steroid glycoside of hoodia, gordonoside F, increases glucose-stimulated insulin secretion by activating GPR119. This effect enhances glucose disposal. Theoretically, concomitant use of hoodia with antidiabetes medications may enhance blood glucose-lowering effects and increase the risk of hypoglycemia. Some antidiabetes medications include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), chlorpropamide (Diabinese), glipizide (Glucotrol), tolbutamide (Orinase), and others.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Clinical research shows that hoodia can increase blood pressure. Theoretically, concomitant use of hoodia with antihypertensive drugs might decrease the effectiveness of the antihypertensive drugs and increase the risk of hypertension. Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), Amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.
Beta-Blockers
Evidence from in vitro research shows that hoodia may stimulate beta-adrenergic receptors. Also, clinical research shows that hoodia can increase blood pressure and heart rate. Theoretically, using hoodia with beta-blockers might decrease the effects of these medications. Some beta-blocker drugs include atenolol (Tenormin), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), nadolol (Corgard), and propranolol (Inderal).
Insulin
Animal research shows that a steroid glycoside of hoodia, gordonoside F, increases glucose-stimulated insulin secretion by activating GPR119. Theoretically, concomitant use of hoodia with insulin may enhance the blood glucose-lowering effects of insulin. Blood glucose levels should be monitored.
