What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: Hoodia Fleshy Leaf Extract at 500 mg per capsule. Hoodia is a succulent plant traditionally used as an appetite suppressant.
The capsule itself is made from bovine gelatin, an inactive ingredient that holds the extract.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The effectiveness of Hoodia Extract for obesity has insufficient reliable evidence to rate. That means the studies we have aren't strong enough yet to say whether it actually works for weight loss or appetite control.
If you're considering it, talk to your doctor or pharmacist about what the current evidence can and can't tell you.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Hoodia has limited safety data, and side effects have been reported. Some people have experienced minor issues like disturbances in skin sensation, headache, dizziness, giddiness, and nausea.
There's also concern that hoodia may increase blood pressure and heart rate. The safety information isn't established enough for pregnancy or breastfeeding, so those are situations where you should avoid it and discuss alternatives with your doctor or pharmacist.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check any blood pressure medications (like captopril, enalapril, losartan, or valsartan), beta-blockers (like atenolol or metoprolol), diabetes drugs, or insulin you're on. Hoodia may reduce how well these work or increase the risk of low blood sugar.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Hoodia Extract is a single-ingredient supplement with moderate interactions mainly affecting blood pressure and diabetes medications. If you take any blood pressure drugs, heart medications, or diabetes medications, check with your pharmacist before starting.
The evidence for weight loss isn't clear yet, and safety data are limited.

Hoodia Extract 500 mg by BulkSupplements.com Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Hoodia Extract 500 mg by BulkSupplements.com does interact with several medication types, and the interactions are moderate in severity.
The biggest concern is with blood pressure medications (antihypertensives like captopril, enalapril, losartan, and valsartan). Hoodia can raise your blood pressure, so taking it alongside these drugs might make them less effective and increase your risk of high blood pressure returning.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Beta-blockers (such as atenolol and metoprolol) are also affected. Hoodia may stimulate the same receptors that beta-blockers try to block, and since hoodia also raises blood pressure and heart rate on its own, it could reduce how well these medications work.
You'll also want to flag any diabetes medications or insulin you're on. Research in animals shows that hoodia may boost insulin release and help lower blood sugar, so combining it with diabetes drugs or insulin could push your blood sugar too low (hypoglycemia).
Your doctor or pharmacist should monitor your blood glucose if you're thinking about taking this together with any diabetes medication.
Altogether, these interactions span 259 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to look up any blood pressure, heart, or diabetes drugs you're currently taking before you start hoodia.

Hoodia Fleshy Leaf Extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
Animal research shows that a steroid glycoside of hoodia, gordonoside F, increases glucose-stimulated insulin secretion by activating GPR119. This effect enhances glucose disposal. Theoretically, concomitant use of hoodia with antidiabetes medications may enhance blood glucose-lowering effects and increase the risk of hypoglycemia. Some antidiabetes medications include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), chlorpropamide (Diabinese), glipizide (Glucotrol), tolbutamide (Orinase), and others.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Clinical research shows that hoodia can increase blood pressure. Theoretically, concomitant use of hoodia with antihypertensive drugs might decrease the effectiveness of the antihypertensive drugs and increase the risk of hypertension. Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), Amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.
Beta-Blockers
Evidence from in vitro research shows that hoodia may stimulate beta-adrenergic receptors. Also, clinical research shows that hoodia can increase blood pressure and heart rate. Theoretically, using hoodia with beta-blockers might decrease the effects of these medications. Some beta-blocker drugs include atenolol (Tenormin), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), nadolol (Corgard), and propranolol (Inderal).
Insulin
Animal research shows that a steroid glycoside of hoodia, gordonoside F, increases glucose-stimulated insulin secretion by activating GPR119. Theoretically, concomitant use of hoodia with insulin may enhance the blood glucose-lowering effects of insulin. Blood glucose levels should be monitored.
