Intensive Bowel Support Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Intensive Bowel Support against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Intensive Bowel Support has four active ingredients, each an enzyme or organism that supports digestion. Protease and Lipase are digestive enzymes — they break down proteins and fats, respectively.
Amylase breaks down carbohydrates. BC30 Bacillus coagulans is a live probiotic (beneficial bacterium) included to support gut health.
The rest of the capsule is made up of inactive ingredients like microcrystalline cellulose, maltodextrin, and hypromellose — the fillers and binders that hold it together.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for this product's ingredients is mixed. BC30 Bacillus coagulans is possibly effective for constipation and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) based on the data we hold.
For the other conditions listed — antibiotic-associated diarrhea, athletic performance, cancer, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease — the evidence isn't established. Protease and Lipase both show insufficient reliable evidence for the digestive conditions we evaluated them for, including inflammatory bowel disease and dyspepsia (indigestion).
We couldn't check Amylase.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The enzymes in this product — Protease and Lipase — are generally well tolerated in adults, though some people report digestive upset or allergic reactions. Protease specifically has rarely caused allergic reactions in people with occupational exposure to similar enzymes, and those with airborne exposure have reported allergic rhinoconjunctivitis or asthma.
BC30 Bacillus coagulans is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, but there's a theoretical concern: if you're severely ill, have a weakened immune system, or have central lines (catheters), live probiotics could potentially cause serious infection. This is rare in healthy people with intact immune systems.
For pregnancy and breastfeeding, safety data is limited for all three checked ingredients — talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
The main thing to watch for is antibiotics (Moderate severity) — they can reduce how well the probiotic in this product works, so separate your doses by several hours. For the other ingredients we checked, no interactions are documented in our data.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product may help with constipation or IBS if BC30 Bacillus coagulans is the active ingredient doing the work — the other enzymes lack strong evidence. If you take antibiotics, space them several hours away from this supplement.
If you're pregnant, nursing, severely ill, or immunocompromised, check with your pharmacist first. Run your medications through the checker on this page before you start.
