What’s inside

Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 8 active ingredients.
  • “Probiotic Cultures Blend” is a proprietary blend — the label doesn't break down how much of each component you get.

Kefiran Kefir Nutrient contains 8 active ingredients, all probiotics (live beneficial bacteria) and supporting compounds. The main strains are two versions of Lactobacillus helveticus (R0052 and Lafti L10), plus Lactobacillus rhamnosus, plantarum, casei, and paracasei — each a different beneficial species traditionally found in kefir ferments.

The product also includes Kefiran, a compound derived from kefir cultures. These inactive ingredients round out the capsule: microcrystalline cellulose and a vegetable capsule shell.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Lactobacillus Helveticus's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: intestinal health and general well-being.
  • We looked for evidence on: Antibiotic-associated diarrhea, Clostridioides difficile infection, Constipation, Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Lactose intolerance — and 4 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Lactobacillus Helveticus is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Antibiotic-associated diarrhea (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Lactobacillus Helveticus is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Rotaviral diarrhea, Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

The evidence for Lactobacillus helveticus is thin. The data we hold rates it "insufficient reliable evidence" for allergic rhinitis (hay fever), antibiotic-related diarrhea, cognitive function, depression, rotaviral diarrhea, and exercise-related respiratory infections.

In plain terms: we don't have solid proof that this strain reliably works for any of these conditions. The other probiotic strains in this product have no effectiveness ratings on file.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Lactobacillus helveticus is generally well tolerated in healthy people, but if you're seriously ill or immunocompromised, use it only under your doctor's guidance. The safety data overall is limited, so check with your doctor before starting.

Because these are live organisms, there's a theoretical risk they could cause infection in vulnerable patients — cases of bacterial infection have been rare but reported with some Lactobacillus species. For the other ingredients, we don't hold enough safety information to comment.

Moderate interaction found

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Lactobacillus Helveticus.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • For scale: 182 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product if you're on antibiotic drugs. The live bacteria in Lactobacillus helveticus may be killed by antibiotics, reducing the supplement's effectiveness.

Spacing doses several hours apart is typically recommended, but your healthcare provider should confirm what works for your specific antibiotic and situation.

Antibiotic Drugs

Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.

Kefir Nutrient by Kefiran: Common Questions

Does Kefir Nutrient by Kefiran interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Kefir Nutrient has a known interaction with 182 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Kefir Nutrient contains 2 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take Kefiran Kefir Nutrient if I'm on antibiotics?
You should talk with your doctor or pharmacist first. Antibiotics can kill the live bacteria in this supplement, which may make it less effective. They'll likely recommend spacing your doses apart, but the exact timing depends on which antibiotic you're taking.
Will Kefiran Kefir Nutrient help with my diarrhea or digestive issues?
The evidence we hold doesn't establish that Lactobacillus helveticus reliably works for diarrhea or other digestive concerns. Other ingredients in this product haven't been rated for effectiveness. Talk with your doctor about whether a probiotic might help your specific situation.
Is this supplement safe if I have a weakened immune system?
The data advises caution. Because these are live organisms, people who are seriously ill or immunocompromised should use this product only under their doctor's guidance. Your doctor can weigh whether the potential benefit outweighs any risk for you personally.
What exactly is Kefiran?
Kefiran is a compound derived from kefir cultures — the fermented milk drink. In this supplement, it's one of several active ingredients, though we don't have specific effectiveness ratings for it on its own.
Does this product contain any fillers?
Yes, the capsule contains microcrystalline cellulose (an inactive binder) and a vegetable capsule shell. The rest of the contents are the active probiotic strains and Kefiran.
Are there any side effects I should know about?
Lactobacillus helveticus is generally well tolerated in healthy people. However, because these are live organisms, there's a theoretical risk of infection in rare cases, particularly in people who are very ill or have a weakened immune system. If you experience unusual symptoms after starting, talk with your doctor.
