What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: L-carnosine at 500 mg per capsule. Carnosine is a compound made naturally in your body that combines two amino acids.
The capsule itself is made from plant cellulose (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose), vegetable magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for carnosine's effectiveness is mixed and often limited. For autism spectrum disorder, the data suggests it's probably ineffective.
For age-related cognitive decline, Alzheimer's disease, athletic performance, cataracts, and general cognitive impairment, we simply don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether it works. If you're considering this supplement for any of these reasons, talk with your doctor about what the current research actually supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-Carnosine is generally well tolerated in short-term studies, but we don't have solid long-term safety data yet. Some people have reported decreased appetite, dry mouth, small weight changes, foot and joint pain, and in rare cases, pneumonia when taking carnosine by mouth.
The safety data advises against use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding because there isn't enough information to know it's safe in either situation.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antidiabetes drugs (insulin or oral diabetes medications), check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product—there's a moderate risk of low blood sugar when combined. No other common medication types are documented to interact with carnosine in our data.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
L-Carnosine may be worth considering if you want to try a generally well-tolerated supplement, but the evidence for most of its claimed uses is either weak or missing. The main caution is if you take antidiabetes medications—blood sugar monitoring becomes important.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting, especially if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or managing diabetes.

L-Carnosine 500 mg by BIOVEA Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
BIOVEA L-Carnosine 500 mg contains one active ingredient—L-carnosine—that does interact with antidiabetes drugs.
The main concern is a moderate risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when carnosine is combined with diabetes medications. Some early research suggests carnosine may lower fasting blood sugar on its own, so adding it on top of a diabetes drug could push your levels too low.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Although we have documented interactions for carnosine with antidiabetes medications, no interactions are documented in our data for other common drug types. Altogether, these interactions span 86 individual medications.
Before you start this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist about your specific diabetes medications—especially if you take insulin or oral diabetes drugs—and whether your blood sugar levels need monitoring.
