Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: L-Citrulline, an amino acid your body naturally converts to another amino acid called L-arginine. The capsule itself is made from gelatin, stearic acid, magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide — these are inactive ingredients that help form and stabilize the capsule.

Insufficient evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Insufficient

There isn't enough reliable clinical evidence to rate this product's ingredients for its stated purpose.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: supports circulatory and cardiovascular health.
  • We looked for evidence on: Cardiovascular disease (CVD), Heart failure, Pulmonary hypertension, Erectile dysfunction (ED), Blood pressure, Endothelial function.
  • The closest evidence on file: L-citrulline is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Cardiovascular disease (CVD) (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: L-citrulline is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Heart failure, Erectile dysfunction (ED), Postoperative pulmonary hypertension.

L-Citrulline is possibly effective for athletic performance, meaning there's some promising evidence but it's not yet conclusive. For sarcopenia (age-related muscle loss), the evidence leans toward it being possibly ineffective.

For heart failure, cardiovascular disease, Reye syndrome, and diabetes, we don't have enough reliable evidence in our data to rate whether it works.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

L-Citrulline is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, though long-term safety hasn't been fully studied. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal — stomach discomfort, heartburn, and digestive upset.

A small number of people taking it for pulmonary hypertension reported cough. There isn't enough safety data during pregnancy, so the data advises against use then.

Safety while breastfeeding is unknown, so supplemental use is not advised. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this is right for your situation.

Antihypertensive Drugs

Theoretically, concomitant use of L-citrulline with antihypertensive drugs might have additive effects and increase the chance of hypotension.
L-citrulline is converted to L-arginine, which can increase nitric oxide and cause vasodilation. However, a meta-analysis of 5 small clinical studies suggests that taking L-citrulline 3-6 grams daily for 1-8 weeks does not lower blood pressure when compared with control.

Likelihood Possible Evidence B
Phosphodiesterase-5 Inhibitors

Theoretically, concurrent use of phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5) inhibitors and L-citrulline might result in additive vasodilation.
L-citrulline is converted to L-arginine, which can increase nitric oxide and cause vasodilation. Theoretically, taking L-arginine with PDE-5 inhibitors might have additive vasodilatory and hypotensive effects. However, in studies evaluating the combined use of L-arginine and sildenafil for erectile dysfunction, hypotension was not reported.

L-Citrulline 750 mg by Pure Naturals: Common Questions

Does L-Citrulline 750 mg by Pure Naturals interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, L-Citrulline 750 mg has a known interaction with 178 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
L-Citrulline 750 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What does L-Citrulline actually do in my body?
L-Citrulline gets converted to another amino acid called L-arginine, which increases nitric oxide — a compound that helps relax your blood vessels and improve blood flow. That's why it's studied for athletic performance and cardiovascular health.
Can I take this if I'm on blood pressure medication?
Not without checking with your pharmacist first. L-Citrulline can lower blood pressure on its own, and combining it with blood pressure drugs might lower your pressure too much. Use the interaction checker on this page with your exact medications.
What are the most common side effects?
Stomach discomfort, heartburn, and gastrointestinal upset are the main ones people report. Most people tolerate it well, but if you have a sensitive stomach, start with a lower dose and see how you feel.
Is it safe to take while pregnant or breastfeeding?
No — there isn't enough safety data in either situation. The data advises against use during pregnancy, and safety while breastfeeding is unknown. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about what's right for you.
Does it actually improve athletic performance?
It's possibly effective based on the evidence we have, meaning there's some promise but it's not proven yet. Results vary, and you may not notice a difference — talk to your trainer or coach about whether to try it.
