This product contains a single active ingredient: L-methionine, an amino acid your body uses to build proteins and support various metabolic functions. The capsule is filled out with inactive ingredients — cellulose, gelatin, and vegetable stearate — which are common binders and capsule materials.

The evidence we hold shows L-methionine is possibly effective for preventing neural tube birth defects. For acetaminophen poisoning, hay fever, asthma, and colorectal cancer, the evidence isn't established well enough to rate.

How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-methionine from food is well tolerated. High-dose supplements, though, may cause side effects — dizziness, drowsiness, headache, vomiting, and irritability have been reported — and should be used only under medical guidance.
High doses can also raise homocysteine levels, which is a risk factor for vascular disease. Rare serious effects include brain swelling and hepatic encephalopathy.
For pregnancy, supplement doses haven't been proven safe — the data on file is limited. The same goes for breastfeeding.
