Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Lion's Mane Mushroom's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: cognitive support and memory health.
  • We looked for evidence on: Alzheimer disease, Cognitive function, Cognitive impairment, Dementia, Memory, Parkinson disease — and 3 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Lion's Mane Mushroom is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Alzheimer disease (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Lion's Mane Mushroom is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Cognitive function, Cognitive impairment, Dementia, Memory, and more.

The evidence for lion's mane isn't established yet in the data we hold. Studies have looked at it for Alzheimer's disease, anxiety, athletic performance, cancer, and various cognitive concerns, but the research so far is insufficient to rate how well it actually works for any of these uses.

  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 0 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.

There isn't enough safety data to recommend it during pregnancy or while breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice if either applies to you.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and some safety-information gaps remain.

Lion's mane may be worth considering if you're interested in cognitive or immune support, but the evidence for its effectiveness isn't solid yet. If you take blood thinners, diabetes medications, or immunosuppressants, you'll need to clear this with your doctor or pharmacist first — the interaction risk is real enough to warrant a conversation.

Does Lion's Mane 20:1 Concentrated Extract by Samsara Herbs interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Lion's Mane 20:1 Concentrated Extract has a known interaction with 327 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Lion's Mane 20:1 Concentrated Extract contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What is lion's mane mushroom, and what is it supposed to do?
Lion's mane is a fungus that's been studied for potential effects on brain health, cognitive function, and immune support. This product is a 20:1 concentrated extract, meaning it's been processed to concentrate the mushroom's compounds.
Does this actually work for brain health or memory?
The research so far isn't enough to say whether it works. Studies have looked at it for Alzheimer's disease, anxiety, and cognitive concerns, but the evidence is still insufficient to give it a solid rating.
What side effects should I watch for?
The most common ones reported are gastrointestinal discomfort, nausea, and skin rash. Lion's mane is generally well tolerated, but long-term safety as a supplement hasn't been well studied.

I take a blood thinner for my heart — is this safe with that?
Not without checking first. Lion's mane may increase your bleeding risk when combined with blood thinners or other antiplatelet drugs. Mention this product to your doctor or pharmacist before you start it.
I'm diabetic. Can I take this with my diabetes medication?
Possibly, but you'll want to verify with your doctor or pharmacist. Lion's mane may lower blood sugar, so using it alongside diabetes drugs could raise the risk of your blood sugar dropping too low.
