Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.

BioSchwartz Liquid Chlorophyll contains one active ingredient: chlorophyll, a green pigment derived from plants. The supplement also includes glycerin and purified water as inactive ingredients to deliver the chlorophyll in liquid form.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Chlorophyll product and its label doesn't state a use — see Chlorophyll's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for chlorophyll isn't established in the data we hold. Our records show insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for genital herpes, wound healing, shingles, nonmelanoma skin cancer, and pancreatitis—the conditions most commonly associated with chlorophyll supplements.

That doesn't mean it doesn't work; it means rigorous studies haven't yet provided solid proof.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Chlorophyll is generally well tolerated in short-term use, but high-quality safety data are limited. The most common side effect from oral use is photosensitization—increased sensitivity to sunlight.

Rarely, people have developed pseudoporphyria (a blistering condition resembling porphyria) after consuming chlorophyll. Avoid this product during pregnancy; there isn't enough reliable safety information.

During breastfeeding, safety is unknown, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using it.

If you're considering chlorophyll for a specific condition, know that the evidence to support it isn't established in our data. If you take methotrexate or medications that increase sun sensitivity, you'll want to talk with your pharmacist before starting—the timing and combination matter.

This is one to discuss with your pharmacist, especially if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or on other medications.
