Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
BioSchwartz Liquid Chlorophyll contains one active ingredient: chlorophyll, a green pigment derived from plants. The supplement also includes glycerin and purified water as inactive ingredients to deliver the chlorophyll in liquid form.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for chlorophyll isn't established in the data we hold. Our records show insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for genital herpes, wound healing, shingles, nonmelanoma skin cancer, and pancreatitis—the conditions most commonly associated with chlorophyll supplements.
That doesn't mean it doesn't work; it means rigorous studies haven't yet provided solid proof.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Chlorophyll is generally well tolerated in short-term use, but high-quality safety data are limited. The most common side effect from oral use is photosensitization—increased sensitivity to sunlight.
Rarely, people have developed pseudoporphyria (a blistering condition resembling porphyria) after consuming chlorophyll. Avoid this product during pregnancy; there isn't enough reliable safety information.
During breastfeeding, safety is unknown, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using it.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your medications before taking this product if you take photosensitizing drugs (moderate risk of additive sun sensitivity) or methotrexate (moderate risk of delayed clearance). No interactions are documented for the other medications we could check, but run your full list through the search tool on this page.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you're considering chlorophyll for a specific condition, know that the evidence to support it isn't established in our data. If you take methotrexate or medications that increase sun sensitivity, you'll want to talk with your pharmacist before starting—the timing and combination matter.
This is one to discuss with your pharmacist, especially if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or on other medications.

Liquid Chlorophyll Unflavored by BioSchwartz Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
BioSchwartz Liquid Chlorophyll may interact with medications, most notably photosensitizing drugs and methotrexate.
The single ingredient, chlorophyll, can increase your skin's sensitivity to sun exposure when combined with photosensitizing medications—a moderate concern. Chlorophyll has been reported to cause photosensitization on its own; when paired with other drugs that do the same, the effect may be stronger.
In rare cases, people have developed pseudoporphyria (a blistering condition resembling porphyria) after taking chlorophyll by mouth.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Chlorophyll may also slow how your body clears methotrexate, a cancer and autoimmune medication. One case report documented delayed clearance of high-dose intravenous methotrexate when chlorophyll was taken at the same time; stopping chlorophyll two days before the infusion prevented the interaction.
Altogether, these interactions span 336 individual medications.
We could not fully evaluate all possible drug interactions with chlorophyll, so before you start this product, run your complete medication list through the checker on this page.

Chlorophyll
Methotrexate (Trexall, Others)
Theoretically, chlorophyll may reduce the clearance of methotrexate.
In one case report, a 54-year-old male developed delayed clearance of intravenous high-dose methotrexate with concomitant use of chlorophyll. When chlorophyll was stopped 2 days prior to methotrexate treatment, methotrexate clearance was unaffected.
Photosensitizing Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use of chlorophyll with photosensitizing drugs may have additive effects.
Chlorophyll has been reported to cause photosensitization. In two case reports, pseudoporphyria developed after oral intake of chlorophyll. Theoretically, concomitant use with other photosensitizing drugs may exacerbate this effect.
