What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product is a straightforward single-ingredient supplement: maitake mushroom extract powder. Maitake is a medicinal fungus used traditionally in Asia, and this extract concentrates its bioactive compounds.
There are no inactive fillers or other ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for maitake's effectiveness isn't yet established in reliable clinical terms. The data we hold lists six potential uses — including hay fever, chemotherapy-related anemia and diarrhea, laryngeal cancer, and chronic fatigue syndrome — but all are rated as having insufficient reliable evidence to support them.
In other words, while traditional and some early research suggests promise, we don't yet have solid proof it works for these conditions.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Maitake mushroom is generally well tolerated when used as food or in supplements. The most common side effects reported in clinical trials were mild stomach issues: a small number of trial participants experienced diarrhea, nausea, or epigastric pain (upper abdominal discomfort).
One person reported a rash and itching after two doses, but this cleared on its own without treatment. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, there isn't enough safety data on concentrated maitake supplements.
The safety data advises against using them in these periods. If you're pregnant or nursing and considering maitake, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners (especially warfarin), blood pressure medications, or diabetes medications. Maitake may boost the effects of blood thinners and lower blood pressure or blood sugar further, creating a safety risk.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Maitake mushroom extract is generally well tolerated by mouth, but it does interact with blood thinners, blood pressure drugs, and diabetes medications — sometimes significantly. If you take any of those, or any prescription medication, check it with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this product.
The evidence for what maitake actually does for health isn't yet solid in our data, so be clear on what you're hoping it will help with.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Maitake Mushroom Extract by Nootropics Depot contains one active ingredient — maitake mushroom — which interacts with several medication types.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners (anticoagulants) like warfarin: a case report documented one patient whose blood-thinning level rose to an unsafe 5.1 after taking a maitake supplement for a week, suggesting maitake may strengthen warfarin's effects.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Maitake also carries Moderate interactions with blood pressure medications (antihypertensive drugs) and diabetes drugs (antidiabetes agents). Animal studies show maitake can lower blood pressure, so combining it with blood pressure meds could increase your risk of low blood pressure (hypotension).
Clinical research shows maitake can lower blood sugar, so pairing it with diabetes medications might raise your risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Altogether, these interactions span 260 individual medications. If you take any prescription medication — especially blood thinners, blood pressure drugs, or diabetes medications — run it through the checker below before starting this supplement.

Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, combining maitake mushroom with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Clinical research shows that taking maitake mushroom polysaccharide (MMP) can lower blood glucose levels in patients with types 2 diabetes.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, combining maitake mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research shows that maitake mushroom can lower blood pressure.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
There is limited evidence that maitake mushroom may increase the anticoagulant effects of warfarin.
In a case report, a patient previously stabilized on warfarin developed an elevated international normalized ratio (INR) of 5.1 after taking maitake mushroom (Grifron-Pro Maitake D-Fraction) 1 drop/kg daily in three divided doses for one week. The elevated INR resolved after holding warfarin for two days, then reducing the dose by 11%. It is thought that the beta-glucan constituent of maitake mushroom might cause warfarin dissociation from proteins, resulting in increased free warfarin levels and increased warfarin effects.
