Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: mangosteen pericarp extract at 500 mg per capsule. The pericarp is the outer rind of the mangosteen fruit, where most of its active compounds live.

The capsule itself is vegetable-based.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed

This product doesn't appear to be marketed for a specific use, so we graded Mangosteen's overall clinical evidence instead.

Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports Mangosteen for:

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.
  • Since the label doesn't commit to one use, we graded the ingredient's overall clinical evidence instead.
  • On file: Periodontitis — rated "Possibly Effective" (Natural Medicines).

Mangosteen shows possibly effective evidence for periodontitis (gum disease). For androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness), Alzheimer disease, and atopic dermatitis (eczema), the evidence is too limited for us to rate it either way.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Mangosteen is generally well tolerated as a food, but long-term safety of concentrated supplement doses hasn't been thoroughly studied. At doses up to 560 mg daily, some people have reported mild tiredness, headache, dizziness, upset stomach, constipation, diarrhea, dry throat, cough, and cold-like symptoms — though it's unclear whether mangosteen itself caused them.

The safety data advises against using supplement amounts of mangosteen during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. There isn't enough information to know it's safe in those situations, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Mangosteen.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 125 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Double-check this product before you start if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs — there's a moderate risk of increased bleeding. If you take donepezil (Aricept), it may boost the drug's effects, so your doctor should know you're considering this supplement.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, concomitant use of mangosteen with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs may increase the risk of bleeding.
In vitro and animal research shows that gamma-mangostin, a constituent of mangosteen, is a potent and competitive antagonist of the serotonin 2A (5-HT2A) receptor. Antagonism of the 5-HT2A receptor is believed to reduce platelet aggregation.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Donepezil (Aricept)

Theoretically, concomitant use of mangosteen with donepezil might increase the effects of donepezil.
Animal research shows that concomitant use of an aqueous extract of mangosteen pericarp with donepezil increases brain concentrations of donepezil at 4 hours by 64% without associated effects on systemic exposure.
