Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: maqui berry extract at 500 mg per capsule. Maqui is a small purple berry native to South America, used in supplements for its antioxidant content.

The capsule also contains inactive ingredients—rice flour, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (a plant-based capsule material), microcrystalline cellulose, and vegetable magnesium stearate—which serve as fillers and binders.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Maqui product and its label doesn't state a use — see Maqui's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for maqui berry in the areas studied—dry eye, prediabetes, and psychological well-being—is currently insufficient. The data we hold does not establish that this product works reliably for these uses.

While animal research hints that maqui may affect blood sugar, human trials in prediabetic patients have not confirmed a benefit.

How safe is it?

Some data gaps
Safety Information · database check
Some gaps

Safety data exists for these ingredients, but with some important gaps.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 0 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Maqui berry is likely safe in food amounts, but supplement safety has not been well studied at the doses used in products like this one. Our safety data advises against supplement amounts of maqui berry due to insufficient information.

No adverse effects were reported in the data we hold. Regarding pregnancy and lactation, there is not enough data on file to know either way—talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding.

Minor interactions only
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Minor only

Only Minor-severity interactions are documented for these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Maqui.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Minor.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 86 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take antidiabetes drugs (insulin, metformin, sulfonylureas, or others), check your exact medications with your doctor or pharmacist before taking maqui berry. There is a Minor-severity theoretical risk of low blood sugar when combined, even though this effect hasn't been confirmed in human trials.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and some safety-information gaps remain.

Maqui berry extract is not yet proven effective for dry eye, prediabetes, or mood support based on current evidence. If you take diabetes medication, check your exact drugs with your own doctor or pharmacist before adding this supplement—there's a theoretical risk of low blood sugar, though it remains unconfirmed in humans.

Because supplement safety for maqui hasn't been thoroughly studied, consider discussing it with your healthcare provider before starting.

Antidiabetes Drugs

Theoretically, maqui fruit extract may increase the risk of hypoglycemia when used with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research shows that maqui berry reduces fasting blood glucose. However, maqui berry extract taken orally, either as a single dose or daily for 3 months, does not decrease fasting blood glucose in prediabetic patients. It is unknown whether it might reduce blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes.
