Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: maqui berry powder. Maqui is a South American berry that's been studied for potential effects on blood sugar, eye health, and well-being.

The product contains no inactive ingredients listed.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Maqui product and its label doesn't state a use — see Maqui's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence we hold does not establish that maqui berry powder works reliably for any condition. For dry eye, prediabetes (impaired glucose tolerance), and psychological well-being, the data shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate its effectiveness.

While animal research suggests maqui may lower blood glucose, human studies in people with prediabetes found no real decrease in fasting blood sugar.

How safe is it?

Safety Information · database check
Some gaps

Safety data exists for these ingredients, but with some important gaps.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 0 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Maqui berry is likely safe when eaten in food amounts, but supplement safety hasn't been well studied. At supplement doses, there isn't enough safety information available, and the data advises against use at those levels.

There are no adverse effects reported in our data. Pregnancy and lactation safety information is not on file.

Minor only

Only Minor-severity interactions are documented for these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Maqui.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Minor.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 86 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take antidiabetes drugs (blood sugar medications), check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product—maqui berry may theoretically increase the risk of low blood sugar. This is a Minor interaction, but it's worth confirming with your own medications.

Antidiabetes Drugs

Theoretically, maqui fruit extract may increase the risk of hypoglycemia when used with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research shows that maqui berry reduces fasting blood glucose. However, maqui berry extract taken orally, either as a single dose or daily for 3 months, does not decrease fasting blood glucose in prediabetic patients. It is unknown whether it might reduce blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes.
