Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: white mulberry leaf extract at 500 mg per capsule. The inactive ingredients are rice flour, gelatin, and maltodextrin, which help form and fill the capsule.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient White Mulberry product and its label doesn't state a use — see White Mulberry's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for mulberry leaf extract isn't established in the data we hold. We have insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for androgenic alopecia (hair loss), osteoporosis, common cold, diabetes, or high cholesterol.

While research suggests it may lower blood sugar, that doesn't mean it's proven to help manage diabetes or other conditions — your doctor or pharmacist can discuss what the current science actually supports for your situation.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Mulberry leaf extract from food sources appears generally well tolerated. In supplement form at higher doses, it's less studied.

The most common side effects in clinical trials were temporary bloating, constipation, loose stools, and gas — though these often lessened over time. Because it can lower blood sugar, use caution if you're at risk for low blood sugar.

There isn't enough safety data to recommend medicinal amounts during pregnancy or while breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized guidance.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — White Mulberry.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 87 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take any diabetes medication — mulberry leaf can lower blood sugar and raise the risk of it dropping too far. Also double-check if you take metformin or other OCT2 substrate drugs, since mulberry leaf may slow how your kidneys clear them.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Mulberry leaf extract may be worth considering if you're interested in traditional herbal support, but the evidence for specific benefits isn't solid yet. If you take diabetes medication or any kidney-transport drugs like metformin, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting — blood sugar effects and drug clearance are real concerns.

Anyone with low blood sugar risk should also discuss it first.

Organic Cation Transporter 2 (Oct2) Substrates

Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might slow the elimination and increase the adverse effects of drugs which are OCT2 substrates.
Animal research shows that coadministration of white mulberry leaf extract with metformin, an OCT2 substrate, slows the renal elimination of metformin via inhibition of OCT2 activity. OCT2 is expressed in the kidneys and is responsible for transporting cationic drugs into tubular epithelial cells in order to be excreted in the urine.
