Mushroom X Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Mushroom X against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Mushroom X by Cohala Wellness
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Mushroom X contains 11 ingredients, including Sodium and extracts from six mushroom types: Cordyceps, Maitake, Lion's Mane, Chaga, and a mushroom blend. Several other mushroom extracts — Reishi, Shiitake, Turkey Tails, White Button, Black Fungus, and Royal Sun — round out the formula.
The product also contains inactive ingredients like glucose syrup, sugar, pectin, citric acid, and natural flavoring to make it a gummy or jelly.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence for what Mushroom X does isn't well established in the data we hold. Sodium is possibly effective for amphotericin B kidney damage and likely effective for cystic fibrosis, but evidence is insufficient to rate it for bipolar disorder or heart failure.
For the mushroom extracts — Cordyceps, Maitake, Lion's Mane, and Chaga — the safety data shows they're generally well tolerated as food, but clinical evidence for their health benefits is either insufficient or points to no real effect (cordyceps appears possibly ineffective for athletic performance, for example). We don't have effectiveness ratings for Reishi, Shiitake, Turkey Tails, White Button, Black Fungus, or Royal Sun mushroom extracts.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Sodium is generally well tolerated in normal dietary amounts, but too much is linked to high blood pressure and heart strain. The mushroom extracts — Cordyceps, Maitake, Lion's Mane, and Chaga — are generally well tolerated when used short-term, though digestive upset (diarrhea, nausea, abdominal discomfort) and occasionally rash have been reported in small numbers of trial participants.
Rare serious effects from sodium include worsened heart disease, high blood pressure, and kidney problems. One case of liver inflammation (cholestatic hepatitis) has been reported with cordyceps, though it's unclear if cordyceps or a contaminant caused it.
Chaga contains high oxalate levels — excessive use has been linked to kidney failure in a few cases. For pregnancy and breastfeeding: the data advises against cordyceps, Maitake, Lion's Mane, and Chaga during these times because there isn't enough safety information.
Sodium is possibly unsafe in pregnancy and lactation, so talk with your doctor. We have no pregnancy or breastfeeding data for Reishi, Shiitake, Turkey Tails, White Button, Black Fungus, or Royal Sun extracts.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Mushroom X, double-check these medication types with the search tool: blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (anticoagulants and antiplatelets) — cordyceps, Lion's Mane, and Chaga may increase bleeding risk; blood pressure medications (antihypertensives) — sodium and Maitake may reduce effectiveness or lower blood pressure too much; diabetes medications (antidiabetes drugs) — Maitake, Lion's Mane, and Chaga may lower blood sugar further; medications that suppress the immune system (immunosuppressants) — cordyceps, Lion's Mane, and Chaga might interfere; lithium, corticosteroids, didanosine, sodium phosphates, and tolvaptan — sodium in this product may interact. We could not check Reishi, Shiitake, Turkey Tails, White Button, Black Fungus, or Royal Sun extracts for interactions.

Mushroom X by Cohala Wellness Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Mushroom X by Cohala Wellness contains several ingredients with documented interactions with medications.
Sodium is the most concerning — it can reduce how well blood pressure medications work (antihypertensives) and may raise the risk of dangerously high sodium levels (hypernatremia) if you're also taking corticosteroids, lithium, didanosine, sodium phosphates, tolvaptan, or other sodium-containing drugs.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Cordyceps may increase bleeding risk with blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like aspirin or clopidogrel), and it might interfere with medications that suppress the immune system (immunosuppressants). Maitake mushroom carries similar risks — it could lower blood pressure further if you're on antihypertensive drugs, raise the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) with diabetes medications, and may boost the blood-thinning effect of warfarin.
Lion's Mane and Chaga also theoretically increase bleeding risk with anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs, may amplify the effect of diabetes medications, and could interfere with immunosuppressants.
We could not check Reishi, Shiitake, Turkey Tails, White Button, Black Fungus, or Royal Sun mushroom extracts — no interaction data is on file for them. Altogether, these interactions span 512 individual medications.

For each ingredient in Mushroom X with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Mushroom Extract Blend
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, combining maitake mushroom with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Clinical research shows that taking maitake mushroom polysaccharide (MMP) can lower blood glucose levels in patients with types 2 diabetes.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, combining maitake mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research shows that maitake mushroom can lower blood pressure.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
There is limited evidence that maitake mushroom may increase the anticoagulant effects of warfarin.
In a case report, a patient previously stabilized on warfarin developed an elevated international normalized ratio (INR) of 5.1 after taking maitake mushroom (Grifron-Pro Maitake D-Fraction) 1 drop/kg daily in three divided doses for one week. The elevated INR resolved after holding warfarin for two days, then reducing the dose by 11%. It is thought that the beta-glucan constituent of maitake mushroom might cause warfarin dissociation from proteins, resulting in increased free warfarin levels and increased warfarin effects.
Sodium
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, a high intake of dietary sodium might reduce the effectiveness of antihypertensive drugs.
High intake of dietary sodium can increase systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Also, high intake of sodium may necessitate increased use of antihypertensive medications to achieve blood pressure control in some patients, such as those with chronic kidney disease.
Corticosteroids
Concomitant use of mineralocorticoids and some glucocorticoids with sodium supplements might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Mineralocorticoids and some glucocorticoids (corticosteroids) cause sodium retention. This effect is dose-related and depends on mineralocorticoid potency. It is most common with hydrocortisone, cortisone, and fludrocortisone, followed by prednisone and prednisolone.
Didanosine (Videx)
Concomitant use of didanosine with additional sodium from dietary or supplemental sources may increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Didanosine formulations contain a significant amount of sodium.
Lithium
Altering dietary intake of sodium might alter the levels and clinical effects of lithium.
High sodium intake can reduce plasma concentrations of lithium by increasing lithium excretion. Reducing sodium intake can significantly increase plasma concentrations of lithium and cause lithium toxicity in patients being treated with lithium carbonate. Stabilizing sodium intake is shown to reduce the percentage of patients with lithium level fluctuations above 0.8 mEq/L. Patients taking lithium should avoid significant alterations in their dietary intake of sodium.
Sodium Phosphates
Theoretically, concomitant use of sodium phosphate with sodium supplements might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Use of high doses (> 45 mL in 24 hours) of sodium phosphate, such as those used for bowel cleansing before surgery, can lead to serious electrolyte disturbances, including hypernatremia. The risk of hypernatremia is highest in the elderly and people with other risk factors for electrolyte disturbances.
Sodium-Containing Drugs
Concomitant use of sodium-containing drugs with additional sodium from dietary or supplemental sources may increase the risk of hypernatremia and long-term sodium-related complications.
The Chronic Disease Risk Reduction (CDRR) intake level of 2.3 grams of sodium daily indicates the intake at which it is believed that chronic disease risk increases for the apparently healthy population. Some medications contain high quantities of sodium. When used in conjunction with sodium supplements or high-sodium diets, the CDRR may be exceeded. Additionally, concomitant use may increase the risk for hypernatremia; this risk is highest in the elderly and people with other risk factors for electrolyte disturbances.
Tolvaptan (Samsca)
Theoretically, concomitant use of tolvaptan with sodium might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Tolvaptan is a vasopressin receptor 2 antagonist that is used to increase sodium levels in patients with hyponatremia. Patients taking tolvaptan should use caution with the use of sodium salts such as sodium chloride.
