High intake of dietary sodium can increase systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Also, high intake of sodium may necessitate increased use of antihypertensive medications to achieve blood pressure control in some patients, such as those with chronic kidney disease.

Here's the simple version: amlodipine works by relaxing your blood vessels so your blood pressure comes down. When you take in a lot of sodium (think salty diets or actual sodium supplements), your body holds onto more water, which raises blood volume and pushes your blood pressure back up. That can work against amlodipine and make it harder to keep your numbers where your doctor wants them.

This isn't about sodium making amlodipine dangerous or causing new side effects. It's more that extra salt can blunt how well it controls your pressure, so you might see higher readings. This matters most if you have kidney problems. The everyday salt in cooking is usually fine, but don't add sodium supplements without checking with your doctor or pharmacist first.

About Amlodipine

What Is Amlodipine Used For?

Brand name: Norliqva

Amlodipine treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children aged 6–17 years. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Sdamlo (oral solution) is specifically indicated for hypertension in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older.

Amlodipine also treats coronary artery disease in adults, including chronic stable angina (chest pain with exertion), vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's or variant angina, caused by coronary artery spasms), and documented coronary artery disease in patients without heart failure or significantly reduced heart pumping function.
