Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: nattokinase (NSK-SD), an enzyme extracted from natto, a fermented soybean food. Nattokinase is designed to support blood flow by breaking down fibrin, a protein involved in clot formation.

The capsule also contains inactive ingredients—microcrystalline cellulose, vegetable capsule material, magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide—which are fillers and binders.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Nattokinase's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: supports healthy fibrinolytic activity and circulation.
  • We looked for evidence on: Angina, Atherosclerosis, Cardiovascular disease (CVD), Hyperlipidemia, Hypertension, Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) — and 4 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Nattokinase is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Angina (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Nattokinase is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Atherosclerosis, Cardiovascular disease (CVD), Hyperlipidemia, Hypertension, and more.

The evidence for nattokinase's effectiveness isn't established in the data we hold. It's been studied for angina, atherosclerosis, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and chronic fatigue syndrome, but the data we have rates all of these as insufficient reliable evidence.

That means either studies are too small, inconsistent, or not yet conclusive enough to draw firm conclusions about whether it actually works for these purposes.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Nattokinase is generally well tolerated in the short term, but its blood-thinning effect means you need to be cautious if you have any bleeding risk. Rare cases of bleeding, including serious brain hemorrhage, have been reported—especially when combined with blood thinners.

Additionally, some people are sensitive to natto or nattokinase itself and can have allergic reactions ranging from throat swelling to anaphylaxis, usually within 2 hours of taking it. The safety data advises against use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, so talk with your pharmacist or doctor if you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or nursing.

Nattokinase by NutraMedix: Common Questions

Does Nattokinase by NutraMedix interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Nattokinase has a known interaction with 289 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Nattokinase contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take this with aspirin?
No, not without checking with your pharmacist first. Nattokinase and aspirin both thin the blood, and there's a documented case of serious brain bleeding when someone combined them. This is a Moderate-severity interaction.
Does nattokinase actually work for heart disease or angina?
The evidence we have isn't conclusive yet. Studies exist, but they're rated insufficient to say whether nattokinase really helps with these conditions. Talk to your doctor about whether it makes sense for your situation.
Is it safe if I have a natto or soy allergy?
Nattokinase is derived from fermented soybeans, and some people allergic to natto or its components can have serious allergic reactions including throat swelling or anaphylaxis. If you have a history of natto or soy allergy, avoid this product.
Can I take it while pregnant?
The safety data advises against it during pregnancy because there isn't enough safety information. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor if you're pregnant or trying to conceive.
What are the common side effects?
Nattokinase is generally well tolerated, but the main concern is bleeding risk. Rare cases of bleeding have been reported, especially when combined with blood-thinning medications. Some people also have allergic reactions to the natto component itself.
Does this product have fillers or other ingredients besides nattokinase?
Yes. Besides the active nattokinase, the capsule contains microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, and a vegetable capsule material—these are standard inactive ingredients used as binders and fillers.
