HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Natural Acidophilus Pro-Biotic Blend with Pectin by Windmill
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This blend contains 7 active ingredients: four strains of live probiotic bacteria (Lactobacillus plantarum, Bifidobacterium bifidum, Lactobacillus casei, and Lactobacillus acidophilus), plus citrus pectin, Dahlulin PB, and Lactospore. The probiotics are meant to support your gut flora, while pectin is a soluble fiber from citrus.
The inactive ingredients are standard tablet binders and fillers: dicalcium phosphate, microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, stearic acid, silica, magnesium stearate, and pharmaceutical glaze.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
For the probiotics in this blend, Bifidobacterium bifidum and Lactobacillus acidophilus are both rated possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Lactobacillus acidophilus is also rated possibly effective for Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
For pectin, the evidence rates it possibly effective for high cholesterol. The other conditions listed — hay fever, Alzheimer disease, anxiety, prediabetes, and radiation exposure — lack enough reliable evidence to rate them either way.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Bifidobacterium bifidum and Lactobacillus acidophilus are generally well tolerated in healthy people and children, though those with weakened immune systems should be cautious. Pectin from food and typical supplement amounts is generally well tolerated.
Mild digestive side effects like bloating, gas, loose stools, or mild cramps can occur with probiotics or pectin, though these are uncommon with the probiotics in this blend specifically. Rare serious adverse effects include allergic reactions and, in very rare cases, anaphylaxis in sensitive individuals.
There have been isolated cases of probiotic-related sepsis or serious infections, but these are extremely rare and mostly in critically ill patients. For pregnancy, Bifidobacterium bifidum is rated possibly safe and Lactobacillus acidophilus is rated possibly safe; citrus pectin is rated likely safe.
The safety of concentrated pectin supplements during breastfeeding has not been well studied — dietary amounts are considered fine. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check before taking if you use digoxin (Lanoxin), as pectin in this blend may reduce how well your body absorbs it. Also flag any tetracycline antibiotics or lovastatin (Mevacor), which pectin may interfere with.
Any antibiotic drug should be timed separately from this product — your doctor or pharmacist can advise on spacing.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This blend may help with IBS or certain bacterial infections if the probiotics work for you, though the evidence is moderate. If you take digoxin, cholesterol medications, tetracyclines, or any antibiotic, you'll need to clear this with your doctor or pharmacist first — timing matters, especially with antibiotics.
It's generally well tolerated in healthy people, but if you have a weakened immune system or are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk it over with your doctor before starting.

Natural Acidophilus Pro-Biotic Blend with Pectin by Windmill Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Windmill's Natural Acidophilus Pro-Biotic Blend with Pectin does interact with medications, primarily through its pectin and probiotic content.
The most serious documented interactions involve pectin and digoxin (Lanoxin), a heart medication — pectin may reduce digoxin absorption by around 62% in a small study, potentially lowering its effectiveness. Pectin may also interact with lovastatin (a cholesterol drug) and tetracycline antibiotics (an antibiotic class), both rated Moderate severity, by reducing how well your body absorbs them.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The probiotic ingredients — Bifidobacterium bifidum and Lactobacillus acidophilus — both carry a Moderate-severity interaction with antibiotic drugs. Since probiotics contain live organisms, taking them at the same time as antibiotics might kill off enough of the beneficial bacteria to reduce the probiotic's effectiveness.
Separating the timing of these two is important.
We could not check three other probiotic ingredients in this blend — Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus casei, Dahlulin PB, and Lactospore — because we hold no data for them. Altogether, these interactions span 188 individual medications.
Before starting this product, check your exact medications with your own doctor or pharmacist, especially if you take digoxin, cholesterol drugs, tetracycline antibiotics, or any antibiotic.

For each ingredient in Natural Acidophilus Pro-Biotic Blend with Pectin with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Bifidobacterium bifidum
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium. bifidum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. bifidum.
Since B. bifidum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. bifidum preparations by at least 2 hours.
BT 1386(TM) Lactobacillus acidophilus
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
Citrus Pectin
Digoxin (Lanoxin)
Theoretically, pectin might reduce the absorption of digoxin, potentially decreasing its effectiveness.
A small clinical study shows that taking digoxin with a kaolin-pectin suspension reduces the absorption of digoxin by about 62%. It is unclear if these effects are due to pectin, kaolin, or the combination.
Lovastatin (Mevacor)
Theoretically, pectin might reduce the absorption of lovastatin, potentially decreasing its effectiveness.
Case reports suggest that concomitant use of pectin and lovastatin might reduce the cholesterol-lowering effect of lovastatin, possibly due to reduced intestinal absorption of lovastatin.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, pectin might reduce the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics, potentially decreasing their effectiveness.
A small clinical study shows that taking tetracycline with bismuth subsalicylate in a kaolin-pectin suspension reduces the absorption of tetracycline by about 34%. It is unclear if these effects are due to pectin, kaolin, bismuth subsalicylate, or the combination.
