Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.

What’s inside

Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 5 active ingredients.

This powder contains 5 active ingredients: Fructo-Oligosaccharides (a prebiotic fiber that feeds beneficial bacteria), and four probiotic strains—Bifidobacterium longum, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus salivarius, and Lactobacillus reuteri. Probiotics are live microorganisms meant to support gut health; prebiotics are food for them.

The product also contains inactive ingredients (sorbitol and maltodextrin) that serve as sweeteners and binders in the powder.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Oral health.
  • We looked for evidence on: Periodontitis, Gingivitis, Dental plaque, Gum disease.
  • The closest evidence on file: Bifidobacterium Longum is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Periodontitis (Natural Medicines).

The evidence we hold does not establish that Fructo-Oligosaccharides work for osteoporosis, constipation, high blood sugar (diabetes), traveler's diarrhea, or high cholesterol—the ratings are insufficient to rate those uses. For the probiotic strains in this product, the data we hold does not establish effectiveness for age-related cognitive decline, allergic rhinitis (hay fever), antibiotic-associated diarrhea, generalized anxiety disorder, asthma, or athletic performance.

If you're considering this product for a specific health goal, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether the evidence supports its use for your situation.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 2 of the 2 matched ingredients.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 2 of 2.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 2 of 2.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Fructo-Oligosaccharides are generally well tolerated in food amounts, but at higher doses they can cause gas, bloating, abdominal pain, and flatulence. Clinical trials at doses up to 15 grams daily did not show an increase in these symptoms compared with placebo, though individual responses vary.

Because supplement-level doses aren't well studied, use this product only with your doctor's guidance. Bifidobacterium longum is generally well tolerated in healthy people, but it should be used cautiously if you're seriously ill or have a compromised immune system.

Rare side effects include abdominal discomfort, flatulence, and in one case a dry cough. Data on safety during breastfeeding are limited, so check with your doctor before using while nursing.

Moderate interaction found
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 2 matched ingredients can interact with medications — Bifidobacterium Longum.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • For scale: 182 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before you start this product, check whether you take any antibiotic drugs (Moderate severity). Because this product contains live probiotics, taking antibiotics at the same time may reduce the probiotic's effectiveness—your doctor or pharmacist can advise on timing.

We could not check three of the probiotic strains in this product for additional interactions.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

This product is a blend of prebiotic and probiotic ingredients meant to support oral and digestive health, but we don't have strong evidence that either component works for specific conditions. If you take antibiotics, you'll want to separate them from this product to protect the live organisms.

Check your exact medications with the tool below and talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting, especially if you're seriously ill, immune-compromised, or breastfeeding.

Antibiotic Drugs

Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium longum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. longum.
Since B. longum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. longum preparations by at least 2 hours.

Oral Health by SuperSmart: Common Questions

Does Oral Health by SuperSmart interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Oral Health has a known interaction with 182 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Oral Health contains 5 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What are probiotics and prebiotics, and what's the difference?
Probiotics are live beneficial bacteria—in this case, Bifidobacterium longum and three Lactobacillus species. Prebiotics are fibers (here, Fructo-Oligosaccharides) that feed those bacteria so they can thrive. Together, they're meant to support gut and oral health.
If I take an antibiotic, can I still use this product?
You can, but timing matters. Antibiotics kill bacteria, including the live probiotics in this powder, which would reduce its effectiveness. Your doctor or pharmacist can tell you the best way to separate them—usually a few hours apart, depending on which antibiotic you're taking.
Will this help my digestion or prevent traveler's diarrhea?
We don't have reliable evidence that either the prebiotic or probiotic ingredients in this product work for those uses. If you're considering it for a specific health goal, talk with your doctor about whether it's right for you.
Can I use this while I'm breastfeeding?
Bifidobacterium longum is possibly safe during breastfeeding, but data are limited. We don't have safety information on file for the other probiotic strains in this product. Check with your doctor before using it while nursing.
What side effects might I experience?
The most common are gas, bloating, and abdominal discomfort—especially if you're new to probiotics or taking higher doses. These tend to be mild. Rare side effects from Bifidobacterium longum include flatulence, constipation, and in one case a dry cough.
Is this product safe if I have a weak immune system?
Bifidobacterium longum should be used with caution if you're seriously ill or immune-compromised, because there are rare reports of this organism causing serious infection in such patients. Talk with your doctor before taking this product if your immune system is weak or if you've had recent surgery.
