Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Perfect Chlorella contains one active ingredient: organic chlorella, a freshwater green algae. The product comes as a powder with no other inactive ingredients listed.

Chlorella has been studied for a range of uses, though the evidence for most of them isn't solid yet. It does contain nutrients including protein, vitamins, and minerals, which is why it's used as a nutritional supplement.

Does it work?

Not established
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Chlorella's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: digestion and immune support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Exercise-induced respiratory infections, Ulcerative colitis, Gut health, Intestinal function, Infection prevention.
  • The closest evidence on file: Chlorella is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Exercise-induced respiratory infections (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Chlorella is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Ulcerative colitis.

The evidence on chlorella is mixed and limited. It's possibly effective for pregnancy-related iron deficiency — the strongest claim in the data we hold.

For brain tumors, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, depression, and fatigue, there isn't enough reliable evidence to say whether it works. Talk with your doctor about whether it's right for what you're hoping to address.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Chlorella is generally well tolerated in the short term, but product quality and purity vary widely — that's something to keep in mind when you're choosing a brand. The most common side effects are allergic reactions, abdominal cramping, constipation, diarrhea, fatigue, gas, nausea, photosensitivity (sun sensitivity), and darkened stool.

These are usually mild and often happen in the first two weeks. Rarely, anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction) has been reported.

There isn't enough safety data to know whether chlorella is safe long-term or in all situations. Don't take it unless your doctor approves, especially if you have any health conditions or are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Moderate interaction found
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Chlorella.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 337 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking Perfect Chlorella, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take warfarin (Coumadin) or any other blood thinners — chlorella's vitamin K content can reduce their effectiveness. Also flag any medications that make your skin sensitive to sun exposure (photosensitizing drugs), since chlorella may add to that effect.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Perfect Chlorella might be worth considering if you're looking to address pregnancy-related iron deficiency and your doctor thinks it's appropriate. If you take warfarin or any photosensitizing medications, you need to check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting — chlorella can interfere with both.

Because long-term safety data is limited, talk it over with your healthcare provider to make sure it's right for you.

Perfect Chlorella by Perfect Supplements: Common Questions

Does Perfect Chlorella by Perfect Supplements interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Perfect Chlorella has a known interaction with 337 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Perfect Chlorella contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Is chlorella safe during pregnancy?
The data we hold rates chlorella as possibly safe in pregnancy, but there isn't much safety information available. Talk with your doctor before taking it — they can weigh the evidence for your specific situation and decide whether it's right for you.
What are the most common side effects?
Most people experience mild digestive issues like cramping, gas, nausea, or diarrhea, especially in the first two weeks. Some also report fatigue, allergic reactions, sun sensitivity, and darkened stool. These usually go away on their own.
Can I take this if I'm on a blood thinner?
Not without checking first. Chlorella is high in vitamin K, which can make warfarin and other blood thinners less effective — we even have a case report of someone's warfarin therapy failing after starting chlorella. Check with your doctor or pharmacist before you take it.
Why does the product quality vary so much?
Chlorella supplements aren't regulated as tightly as drugs, so purity and contamination levels differ between brands. It's worth researching the manufacturer's quality standards before you buy.
Does chlorella actually work for fatigue or depression?
The evidence isn't established yet. We don't hold reliable data showing it helps with either condition, so we can't say one way or the other. If you're considering it for these reasons, talk with your doctor first.
Will this interact with my other supplements?
The data we hold focuses on prescription and over-the-counter drugs. If you're taking other supplements and want to add chlorella, run that combination past your doctor or pharmacist to be sure.
