Organic Superfood Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Herbadiet
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Organic Superfood against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Organic Superfood by Herbadiet
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Herbadiet's Organic Superfood has three active ingredients. Organic wheat grass and organic blue-green algae are nutrient-dense plant materials traditionally used as dietary supplements.
Moringa is a leaf extract also used as a nutritional supplement. The capsule itself is made from vegetable cellulose, a plant-based shell.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence supporting these ingredients for their intended uses is limited. Blue-green algae is possibly effective for high blood pressure, but for acne, hay fever, anemia, and arsenic poisoning, the data we hold show insufficient reliable evidence to rate it.
Moringa similarly has insufficient reliable evidence for anemia, asthma, athletic performance, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, or high cholesterol. For wheat grass, we hold no effectiveness ratings in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Blue-green algae and moringa leaf are generally well tolerated as foods, but high-quality human safety data are limited for both. Quality matters with blue-green algae — some products can be contaminated with toxins or heavy metals, so sourcing is important.
Common side effects from blue-green algae include abdominal cramps, bloating, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, nausea, and vomiting. Rare allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis and rashes, have been reported.
Moringa leaf commonly causes transient diarrhea — in a trial, about one in four people taking 8 grams daily experienced it. Rare cases of Stevens-Johnson syndrome (a serious skin reaction) have been linked to moringa leaves.
Moringa root and root bark may stimulate the uterus and should be avoided in pregnancy. There isn't enough safety data on wheat grass to say whether it's appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check with your pharmacist if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (Moderate), thyroid medication like levothyroxine (Moderate), diabetes drugs (Moderate to Minor), immune suppressors (Moderate), or medications metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes (Moderate to Minor).
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you take blood thinners, diabetes medication, immune-suppressing drugs, or thyroid medication, you'll want to check this product with your pharmacist before starting — the interactions are documented and worth discussing. If you have no medications or are on other drugs, this is worth a conversation with your pharmacist about quality and your individual health picture.

Organic Superfood by Herbadiet Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Herbadiet's Organic Superfood contains three active ingredients, and two of them carry documented drug interactions.
The most serious concern is blue-green algae, which has Moderate interactions with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (medications that prevent clotting) — it may theoretically increase bleeding risk, though this is unlikely in practice.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Blue-green algae also interacts with immune-suppressing medications and diabetes drugs. It can stimulate your immune system, potentially working against immunosuppressants, and may lower blood sugar, raising the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) if you take diabetes medication.
Moringa, the third ingredient, has Moderate interactions with thyroid medication (levothyroxine/Synthroid) — it may reduce how well your body converts thyroid hormone — and with certain drugs metabolized by your liver's cytochrome P450 enzymes, as well as P-glycoprotein transporters. Moringa also carries a Minor interaction with diabetes drugs.
Wheat grass, the first ingredient, has no known interactions documented in our data. Altogether, these interactions span 1,011 individual medications.
You'll want to run your exact prescriptions through the medication checker on this page before starting.

For each ingredient in Organic Superfood with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Moringa
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, moringa might increase or decrease levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
Some in vitro research suggests that moringa inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). However, other in vitro research suggests that moringa extract induces CYP3A4 enzymes. A pharmacokinetic study in patients with HIV shows no change in the pharmacokinetics of nevirapine, which is partially metabolized by CYP3A4, when administered concomitantly with moringa leaf powder 1.85 grams daily for 14 days.
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Theoretically, moringa leaf can antagonize the effects of levothyroxine.
Animal research suggests that moringa aqueous leaf extract might reduce serum triiodothyronine (T3) concentrations by inhibiting the peripheral conversion of thyroxine (T4) to T3.
P-Glycoprotein Substrates
Theoretically, moringa leaf extract might increase the levels and clinical effects of P-glycoprotein substrates.
In vitro research shows that moringa leaf extract inhibits renal P-glycoprotein transport activity. So far, this reaction has not been reported in humans.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, moringa might have additive effects when used with antidiabetes drugs; however, research is conflicting.
Animal research shows that moringa can lower blood glucose levels. However, research in humans has not shown consistent blood glucose lowering effects.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, moringa might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that moringa extract induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
Nevirapine (Viramune)
Moringa leaf is unlikely to have a clinically significant interaction with nevirapine.
Nevirapine is partially metabolized by cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). In vitro evidence suggests that moringa inhibits CYP3A4. However, a pharmacokinetic study in patients with HIV shows no change in nevirapine pharmacokinetics when administered concomitantly with moringa leaf powder 1.85 grams daily for 14 days.
organic Blue Green Algae
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, spirulina blue-green algae might increase the risk of bleeding if used with other anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs. However, this is unlikely.
Spirulina blue-green algae have shown antiplatelet and anticoagulant effects in vitro. However, one preliminary study in 24 patients receiving spirulina blue-green algae 2.3 grams daily for 2 weeks showed no effect on platelet activation or measures of clotting time.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking blue-green algae with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Human research shows that spirulina blue-green algae can have hypoglycemic effects in patients with diabetes, at least some of whom were using antidiabetes drugs. However, blue-green algae does not seem to improve glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels in patients with diabetes. A meta-analysis of animal studies also suggests that spirulina blue-green algae have hypoglycemic effects.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, concurrent use of blue-green algae might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
Blue-green algae have been shown to stimulate the immune system.
