Phosphatidylserine is generally well tolerated in studies, though long-term safety hasn't been fully established. The most common side effects are flatulence, gastrointestinal upset, headache, insomnia (especially at higher doses around 600 mg), and nausea.

Phosphatidylcholine is also generally well tolerated orally, but high doses can trigger digestive upset—bloating, diarrhea, altered taste, nausea, and vomiting have been reported, and very large amounts (30 grams per day) raise gastrointestinal risk. For pregnancy, the safety data advises against phosphatidylserine use; phosphatidylcholine is needed in pregnancy but supplement safety beyond food sources isn't well studied, so check with your doctor.
