What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: phosphatidylserine, a naturally occurring compound found in cell membranes. Phosphatidylserine is supplied as a powder and sourced from soybeans.
There are no added fillers or binders listed in the inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Phosphatidylserine is rated possibly effective for age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer disease based on available evidence. For athletic performance, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), general cognitive function, and dementia, the evidence isn't yet reliable enough to establish effectiveness in the data we hold.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Phosphatidylserine is generally well tolerated in studies, though long-term safety isn't fully established. The most common side effects from oral use are flatulence, gastrointestinal upset, headache, insomnia, and nausea.
Insomnia is more likely at higher doses (around 600 mg), and gastrointestinal upset can occur at doses of 200–300 mg per day. The safety data advises against use during pregnancy because there isn't enough information to know it's safe.
Breastfeeding safety is also unknown, so avoidance is recommended. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take anticholinergic drugs (like those for overactive bladder or certain poisonings) or cholinergic drugs (medications that boost acetylcholine), check your specific medications with your pharmacist before starting phosphatidylserine. Both types have documented Moderate-severity interactions with this ingredient.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Phosphatidylserine may help with age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer disease, though evidence for other brain-health uses is still being studied. It's generally well tolerated, but watch for nausea, flatulence, and insomnia — especially at higher doses.
Before starting, check with your doctor or pharmacist, especially if you take anticholinergic or cholinergic medications.
