Here's the idea behind this pairing. Protriptyline (Vivactil) is a tricyclic antidepressant, and part of how it works in the body is by blocking acetylcholine, a brain and body messenger. That anticholinergic action is what gives it some of its familiar side effects, like dry mouth, blurry vision, constipation, and trouble urinating. Phosphatidylserine is thought to nudge acetylcholine up, so in theory it could slightly push against that blocking effect.

Honestly, this is a theoretical concern, and the evidence is thin. It's unlikely to cause big problems, but if you notice your depression symptoms creeping back, that's worth mentioning. Don't start, stop, or change either one on your own, just loop in your pharmacist or doctor first so they can keep an eye on how you're doing.
