Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • “Potassium” is listed as a grouped ingredient — the label gives one combined amount (99 mg) without saying how much of each component you get.

This product contains one active ingredient: potassium gluconate, a form of potassium that your body can absorb and use. The supplement also includes cellulose and other inactive ingredients (fillers and binders that help form the tablet).

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

We hold no graded evidence for this product's ingredients for its stated purpose.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: muscle and nerve health support.
  • Our graded evidence for these ingredients doesn't cover that particular purpose.

The product facts provided do not include effectiveness ratings for potassium gluconate. While potassium is an essential mineral your body needs, the data we hold does not establish whether this supplement is effective for any specific health purpose.

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Potassium from food is generally safe, but supplements can cause dangerously high blood levels in some people, especially those with kidney disease or kidney function problems. Common side effects from oral potassium include stomach pain, belching, diarrhea, gas, nausea, and vomiting.

Rare but serious effects from very high levels include irregular heartbeat, heart block, low blood pressure, and confusion. During pregnancy, dietary potassium is appropriate, and this supplement is rated likely safe — but use it only under medical guidance.

While breastfeeding, check with your doctor before taking a potassium supplement, even though dietary potassium is fine.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

This supplement is for people with low potassium who need extra support — but only if their doctor or pharmacist recommends it and monitors their blood levels. If you take any blood pressure medication, water pill, or have kidney disease, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product.

Potassium can build up to dangerous levels when combined with certain drugs, so a conversation with your own healthcare provider is essential before you begin.

Ace Inhibitors (Aceis)

Using ACEIs with high doses of potassium increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
ACEIs block the actions of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and reduce potassium excretion. Concomitant use of these drugs with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia. However, concomitant use of these drugs with moderate dietary potassium intake (about 3775-5200 mg daily) does not increase serum potassium levels.

Likelihood Likely Evidence C

Potassium Gluconate 595 mg by CVS Health: Common Questions

Does Potassium Gluconate 595 mg by CVS Health interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Potassium Gluconate 595 mg has a known interaction with 62 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Potassium Gluconate 595 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Who shouldn't take this supplement?
People with kidney disease or reduced kidney function should be especially careful — potassium can reach dangerous levels in your blood. Anyone on a potassium-sparing water pill or most blood pressure medications should check with their doctor or pharmacist first. If you have heart problems, also run it by your healthcare provider.
What are the most common side effects?
The most frequent complaints are stomach pain, belching, diarrhea, gas, nausea, and vomiting. These happen because potassium supplements can irritate your digestive tract. Take it with food and stay hydrated to reduce these effects.
Can I take this while pregnant or breastfeeding?
During pregnancy, this supplement is rated likely safe, but use it only under medical guidance — don't take it on your own. While breastfeeding, check with your doctor before starting, since the data we hold advises a conversation first. Regular dietary potassium is fine in both situations.
What does potassium actually do in your body?
Potassium is an essential mineral that helps your heart beat steadily, regulates fluid balance, and supports nerve and muscle function. Your body gets it from food like bananas and beans, but if you're low, a supplement can help — as long as your doctor confirms you need it.
Is this safe if I have normal kidney function?
Yes — as long as you don't take it with blood pressure or water-pill medications that affect potassium. People with healthy kidneys can usually handle dietary potassium and supplements, but always check your specific drugs first.
