Probiotic 10 contains 10 active probiotic strains—live beneficial bacteria intended to support digestive and immune health. The two we have detailed information on are Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus; the other eight are Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus salivarius, Lactobacillus brevis, Bifidobacterium lactis, Lactobacillus paracasei (two different strains), and Lactobacillus plantarum (two different strains).
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients—dicalcium phosphate, vegetable cellulose, silica, and vegetable magnesium stearate—that serve as fillers and binders.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for Lactobacillus acidophilus is mixed. It's rated possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori (a stomach bacteria), antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
However, it's rated possibly ineffective for atopic disease (allergic conditions), and we don't have enough evidence to rate it for acute respiratory distress syndrome. For the Lactobacillus bulgaricus strain in this product, the evidence isn't established in our data.
The effectiveness of the other seven strains also isn't documented in the information we hold.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactobacillus acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. Lactobacillus bulgaricus is generally well tolerated in healthy people, but those who are very ill or have weakened immune systems should be cautious.
Both strains are live organisms, and there's a theoretical concern they could cause infection in severely immunocompromised patients—cases of bacteremia, sepsis, and other serious infections have been documented, though these are rare and usually involve translocation from natural body sites. Orally, some people taking a combination of probiotics like this report mild gastrointestinal side effects—stomach discomfort, bloating, gas, diarrhea—but these are uncommon.
One trial reported a couple of rashes with itching in participants taking a similar combination, though it's unclear whether L. acidophilus was responsible.

Lactobacillus bulgaricus Lb-87
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus delbrueckii with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. delbrueckii.
Lactobacillus delbrueckii preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. delbrueckii preparations by at least two hours.
Lactobacillus acidophilus LA14
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
